Has Anyone Out There Put A Tremec Tko 600 In There Buick. I Put One In My 69 Sportwagon Last Year And Have Found 2 Things I'm Not Happy With. Trans Won't Shift From Second To Third Above About 4500 Rpm Like It's Locked Out And 5th To 4th Downshift Acts Like There Is No Sincro (grinds). Got On A Few Mustang Sites And Seems They Too Have Similar Problems. I've Got A Friend Fighting With Tremec And They Admit It's A Problem But Say Mine Does'nt Fit The Time Line. They Now Won't Return Calls Hoping We'll Go Away. Trans Only Has Maybe 300 Miles On It But Sat On My Shelf For A Year. Some Say Things Will Get Better After 2000 Or So Miles. I Guess I'll See What Happens Then. Right Now The Motors Being Rebuilt. Pete

I want to do that swap this summer, but I have been reading too and it looks like those TKOs have some issues...I want to order from keisler or oms-grp.Im having seconds toughts on it...I was going for the TKo600 with .64 overdrive, but if that means im gonna pay a 2500,oo$ plus kit and it wont shift or downshift right, man thats sucks!. Some guys here have use the tremec, waht are your verdics???

I'll bet you have clutch issues.

I went from the th 400 to the tremec. did all the work myself. manual to manual might be cheaper but auto to manual ain't. I might have had clutch issues brad but after a few trips the oil pump pick up tube in the motor came loose so out came the motor and am now thinking replacing the clutch with a hydraulic unit. Car shifted fine in all gears but 2 to 3 would sometimes lock me out. My verdict marc is it turned my sportwagon into a sport car. especially after I put hotchkiss stuff under it. When everything goes back together the 8.2 (3;23) Posi is going to be replaced by a 12 bolt 373 posi. Motor goes on the dyno next week. Chris skalig from victoria bc is doing it. I loved driving that wagon with the 5 speed and can't wait to get it back. I'd wait and see if any other people have had issues. Keisler, forget it. Just a bunch of pushy sales people. They phoned me numerus times trying to get me to commit. bought mine at a local one man one woman shop for a great price. cheers pete

marc. If you really want to go this route give me a call. try to get as much done in canada as you can. nothing against the good old usa but right now our dollar sucks compared to obama's and then there's tax, duty, shipping, handling, and dealing cross border with a supplier you can't go and visit readily and have no recourse should things go bad. Do what I did and research part numbers and what ever you can then go to your local shop and see what they say. most trans shops won't even look at you unless you let them do the entire job. If your winters are as long as they are here in northern bc you'll have time to get the job done. pete

i have a T56 not a TK0-600 but they work under the same principles and basic design.

What hydraulics system are you using?

WHen tremec (borg warner) first came out with this trans, it was rated for a HUGE amount of torque. However, the engines (LSx from chev) quickly caught up.

In an effort to try and prevent failure in factory cars, the factory restricted the clutch pedal by modifying the hydraulics. Meaning, the fluid can go into the slave (pushing pedal in) faster than it can come out (releasing pedal/engaging clutch).

This means, when someone is shifting fast, because the fluid returns slower, the pedal is released slower, and the clucth is engaged slower. This protects the tranny.

Unfortunately alot of the aftermarket hydraulics followed this design, or just included GM parts for hydraulics.

Mcleod has a replacement with this ironed out, and you could also do it yourself.

Again, depending on which hydraulics you have, that could be the issue.

I have a friend that has the Tremec in his Mopar and he has experienced the 2-3 shift problem with his mechanical clutch @ higher rpm's. Not sure of any resolution on it.

I have a tremec from that time frame as well and I'm hoping there is no problem with mine.

Hey 69wag, I'd love to see some photos of your wagon. I am going to be putting a manual trans in my 68 sportwagon.
