Motorcycle engine oils are not held to the same standards as automotive engine oils and still contain a VERY good additive package for our race engines. And thats all I'm saying about that. o No: PS the Rotella is a VERY GOOD oil for breaking in an engine and for running in an engine that will see street duty.
Hey there Rick. I hve been wondering when you were going to join back from over there. I have been waiting on you so I could put my motor back together. I hate to see the things that you are going throught with your motor I did the same thing when I put mine back together. One pass and gone. I had to build the whole motor. Please get up with me so we can tech getting this thing back together.
THis was probably checked when putting the motor together, but whats the coil bind with the valves and springs installed? Maybe the retainer is hitting the valve giude boss? just throwing these out there, i'm pretty sure you woulda checked.
Rick, since I'm stupid, I went to the Schubeck web site to try and learn something.....From the way they explain how these lifters work, I was wondering if you might have an oiling issue, does oil need to be restricted to run a roller in a BBB??? A small cushion of oil that is non compressible is used on both internal and "wheel" roller, no metal to metal, that's why the Schubecks' are supposed to be better, anything going on that would have restricted the flow?? Do the Schubecks' have the same oiling provisions as a actuall BBB lifter?? May have been a combination of lack of oil, and a soft shaft (if it ain't stiff, it aint worth a F#@*!). Like I said, I don't know squat about these lifters......Just trying to help ya out, and when ya do get this straightened out might just have to follow in your foot-steps, always copy the fast guy! Waiting to hear from Bob, and ARP about the longer studs for my motor......... Gary G.
Gary G you are not Stupid, You are just doing some Homework. I wish Vendor's would do more of that before they Made Part's
Lifter answer... The lifters had the oil feed hole to pick up oil from the oil passage in the block in the wrong spot so the rollers that needed oil to survived starved and galled the can and lifter. The lifters were ordered for a Buick but Joe assumed the Chevy core would work like it does with the flat tappet. It just never fails that someone is always screwing something up...... ou: No matter how hard $$$$$$$ you try to do it right. Joe plans on building a set of lifters that will pick up oil from the right area to replace the set that got trashed.
Rick, it sure was painful seeing what happened from this side of the screen alone. At least you found the true root cause of the problem in the end; add another one to the long list of lessons-learned we all keep. Look forward to hearing more positive news from you in the future. Devon
The motor is sitting between the frame rails as we speak but I have to get the headers built. I very much plan on being at Indy. We haven't quite work out the details with the cam, but it will be discussed. I know I don't want to choke down the $455 for the ruff core + heat treat and grind on top of it. @$750-800 by the time it's done...
Thanks, but I should be ok. I would have to pull the motor and everything to get them in. I'll keep it in mind. I'll know tomorrow how things are coming along... :TU:
Something like these would save some time,Not to mention how cool they would look  http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=73808&highlight=headers Good luck,I'm gonna try to get over there on Saturday o No:
