Thats about right what I've been seeing for a cores with the pump. It'll cost you another $800+ for the rebuild.

At first someone told me the Turbo 400 didnt match up to the my NH and now someone says it does. SHould I buy the $200 core and have it shipped for an extra $150 or should I just try and find one closer to me?

Ok, you need a Nailhead specific trans, a unit from '65 or '66. It's refered to as a Super Turbine 400 (ST400). It shares some commonalities with the GM Turbo 400 (TH400), however the GM unit will NOT bolt up to the Nailhead.

The unit you found for $200 will bolt up, providing it is a '65 ST400. Personally, I might look a little while longer. $200 for a core seems high to me, especially since you will have to have it shipped. I got a good deal on mine from a board member. You might want to consider contacting Dan (lapham3@aol.com) to see if he has any more units left. I'm not sure if he would be willing to ship a trans, but it would be worth it to ask. He hooked me up with a converter, flexplate, and starter too. Or, you could get a rebuilt unit from Steve.

In any case, you need a Nailhead Super Turbine 400 (ST400) from a '65 or '66.

pard, the difference is in the bell housing that is built into the case.... the nailhead bell housing is ROUND not like the bop or chevy pattern.....

You also need to be carefull as not all ST400s were for the Nailhead in 66. The BU ST400 trans in 66 was behind the 340 engine and it has a BOP bell-housing (not Nailhead). The ST400 was also made in 67 and none of these had a Nailhead housing as the last nail was driven through the factory in 66.

Does anyone know what it costs to rebuild an ST400 and where can I get the rebuild Kit?

In other words, if you lived closer I could sell ya one, otherwise I now have to ship and they want roughly $1 a LB. The trans weighs 143 lbs empty and the converter about 48. And they have to be shipped separately since if you ship them together, they are over the 150 LB max weigh.
