We'll have to wait for Jim's input on that one.

In the meantime Gary, I want to apologize for being an a s s. I will not make any excuses. You came here to get answers and this was no place for me to show impatience or frustration. A fellow Buick person who's passionate about their car deserves much better. I'll try to do a better job of being helpful. I certainly should have hit the book before I tried to give you advice on a procedure I haven't done in a long time.

Nice thought, but i doubt the quality of the seal at the dipstick. I don't remember going to such great lengths to get the job done. If you can figure out a way to do it this way, I'd love to hear it...but I belive I did the flush as you described it, not as I remembered it.

Devon, I think your getting a little burnt out. You cant answer every question. Some of the pictures you see posted just send your face into your palm. Its understandable getting frustrated. Your an asset to V8 and a wealth of valuable information on here. Dont be so hard on yourself. Everyone can have an off day once in a while.

Gary, new transmission fluid has detergent in it. It tends to "wash" away the gunk thats holding the unit together. So you could kill a transmission by doing the required maintenance on it.

Thanks Jason, but I would like to think that I can be helpful without being unkind. I know better.

Its the same as not doing regular oil changes on your engine, ie varnish etc. With your trans you get a varnish/build up in the drums etc and Atf has a bunch of additives in it, and if you flush the unit and do a complete change the additives can break it down and send all the crap through the pump, valve body etc causing damage or failure. Sometimes atf goes black not because of being burnt, but because aluminum and steel parts inside the trans are rubbing together somewhere in the unit because of a tab washer or bushing problem. If the fluid is broke down you can try doing 2-3 pan drops back to back after 3000 miles to break it down slowly. A little tip to help you keep your cork pan gasket in place is to Gasket Cinch it to the pan http://www.thefind.com/cars/info-gasgacinch-gasket make sure the pan is flat and do not over tighten the bolts. Cork is the only way to go on most of these thin tin pans......... Chris
