transmission color?

    Hey guys!
    Im thinking about pulling the engine and transmission out of my 66GS 4speed.
    what would be the correct color for the T10 tranny?

    If it's an iron T-10 I have no idea, If it's the later Aluminum case T-10 then they are not painted AFAIK.

    Natural comes to mind. They all seem to leak anyway, so it won't get rusty.

    The T-10 has an iron case and an aluminum tailshaft, neither are painted.
    None of the 3 bellhousings I've had were painted either.
    Cast-iron paint is fine.

    Tell you the truth most of the GS(65-66) trannies i`ve seen looked black to me,now i dont know if they were painted or what?:Do No:

    Mine were usually just rusty.
    But under the grease there was still some clean bare iron, no black.
    There should also be a 2 letter code painted on the side in yellow. Like 'KT', 2 inches high.

    mine is painted white -proberbly when the former owner changed the clutch , because I still have the old dead one in the trunk:grin:
