You're going to have to look at the big picture here regarding bolt-in rear axle housings.

Assuming the width is compatible with your Wildcat, here are the potential issues with the Caprice rear end:

Spring perches in the correct location?
Shock mounts in the correct location?
Lower control arm perches in the correct location/correct angle?
Upper control arm mounts in the correct location/correct angle?
    Yoke compatible with existing driveshaft?

Don't be surprised to see that any one of these factors prevents you from a simple swap. There are tons of variables you have to consider, even pinion angle.

Also, don't spend any time pursuing the ST300. You'll be unhappy with a two speed trans, it's not as strong as your TH400, and will require a different yoke, different transmission crossover location, different rear trans mount, different driveshaft length.

Devon is right.... DO NOT waste your time with either the caprice rear end or the 300 trans...

You would spend a ton of time and money for no benefit trying to swap in either that rear end or that trans...

Oh and next time turn off the caps lock or people will have a tough time reading LOL....

What you should do is either stick with the gear that you have because it gives you a nice low RPM on the highway, and just add power to the engine if you want more performance....

Or if you are dead set of revving high RPM down the highway then make a post pictures of the rear and when "Monzaz" chimes in to ID the rear end send him a Private Message and he will fill you in on the gearing options.

There are overdrive trans options but "bring money" for that option... I have a few thousand into my overdrive swap...

We have been trying to tell you over and over in several threads you've started about the same subject with the same questions.

There ARE NO CARRIERS OR GEAR SETS that will fit your housing for sure other than those that come from 1967 to 1970 Buick 9-3/8" donors. Does this make sense????

    Where are you located?
Is your current differential broken or are you trying to change the gear ratio for better performance?
It is hard to understand your posts. If you could please turn off your capital letter button, that would help.
What is the ratio of the 68 posi - was the carrier different from your 69?
I have 3.42 posi in my 67, I am thinking of returning it to the 3.08 open.

there are several compaines that will make a rear for you - new - to your spec's. All you have to do is spend between $2,500-3,000

You can have a ford 9" or a Moser 12-bolt or a Strange S60 in any gear ratio you want . You will have to tell them exact measurements for control arm mounting and spring perches .. every detail. You give them your credit card # and the delivery truck shows up. pretty simple, especially when compared with trying to find obsolete unobtainable parts - all it takes is money.

Monzaz, who answered one of your hundred other posts, is THE MAN as far as rear ends go. His business is building and repairing many different types of rears. If he tells you .. it is so.

no need to be short, my problem was I wasn't understanding which carrier for which gears, sorry for the miss communication, and along the way I was informed that my setup was a full sized Pontiac and gears were available, im only just starting to get a gripp on these things, have a good day....

---------- Post added at 08:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:03 PM ----------

im rite outside of Youngstown ohio, sorry for the caps lock... what happened was I knew the 69 I was bying had a 3.07 open. so I found a 3.07 posi out of a 68 the housing was scrap from somebody trying to do some customizing with a grinder , but the carrier / internals are fine. so rite now I have a 3.07 open from factory in my 69, with a 3.07 posi from the 68 that can be switched over.i didn't really understand the diff carriers and gears, I guess the 3.07 is the steepest you can go on a 2-series wich I was told I have? so I was just considering bumping it up a bit, 3.23 probably would be ideal, and ive heard 3.42 is as steep as one should go for a semi daily driver... so im trying to learn and possibly change up...why are you considering returning to 3.08 open? get back with me if you want .... thanks

Sorry, it's just so confusing having multiple threads going on with the same questions, and it's never been clear about what you have in the car versus what you "have" period. We all want to help otherwise we wouldn't reply, but it just feels like we're going around in circles.

A couple of times it's been suggested that you contact Monzaz, who has already replied in at least one of your topics. A phone call to him would go a long, long way to helping you to get the answers you're looking for.

OK but here's where I'm hoping for some clarification. Is the housing in your car the one that seems to be a Pontiac version that's now on the floor, or is your car still put together with the original '69 Buick housing, and the Pontiac rear is a separate piece you're interested in using? I'm just trying to understand what's in your car now versus what's sitting on the floor.

the 68 on the bench came out of identicle rearend as the 69 open that's together in my car, the 68 has 30 axle splines and 28 pinions, so those numbers don't add up to full size Pontiac.

Very good, you are really lucky because Monzaz is in Richfield Oh, pretty close. :birthday:
:TU: 3.23 is my preferred gear - but one never sees that one! I'm beginning to like the 3.08 and loose convertor action.
