As some of you know I'm installing the 4-speed back into my GS. Got the fly wheel & clutch in and bellhousing bolted up but by the time I get the tranny manuvered into place I can not get it to seat.

It ingages the clutch disc but that is it. there is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch between the bellhousing and the face of the tranny. It just wont seat in to the clutch/bellhousing any more. Ive tried the ford tool, chevy tool and begging it... No go??? :Do No: I have gotten the bolts started and nothing... They tighten up but the trans does not move and Im afraid to strip the bell housing.

    Any ideas???

Wrong pilot bearing? Clutch disc on backward?

Did ya test fit everything before you started?

    Good luck :3gears:

Well it seems that the "universal clutch alignment tool" isn't :blast: .

Clutch disc was off center and the trans was pushing against the pilot bushing  ... Go figure... This car has just fought me with every projest I attempt... :af: Really starting to really piss me off :af: :af: :af:

Anyways, got to find the proper direct clutch alignment tool... Cheap A$$ center force... Everyone else gives you a tool instead I got the tool :Brow: ...

Enough to night my back is killing me... An iron cased T-10 is not a real light weight :Dou:

Have a friend push the clutch pedal in while you try to engage the trans -- usually works.

Well, I can sympathize with you. I spent 3 nights trying to wrestle my Muncie in, with no luck.

It is a 2 person job: One person has to guide the tranny in, while the other person pushes the clutch pedal in.

Also, the person guiding in the trans needs to hold it in the middle. If you hold the middle and the tailshaft, there is too much leverage and the input shaft will not go into the pilot.

Another tip: Do not attach the z-bar return spring when you are doing this. It will move the throw out bearing enough to push the input shaft off center.

There is only one issue with your sugestion... There is no clutch linkage, just hydrulic lines... And they are not connected to anything yet....

    I'm such a dork :Dou:

hey woodie.....when you get the plastic alinnment tool work it up and down and left to right as your tightening the bolts this will make sure your disk is centered.... the tool should slide in and out easely :eek2:

then get two pieces of threaded rod 4-1/2" long and put them in the top holes install the bottom bolts then the top one's you may need two nuts to remove the studs
this worked great for me :Smarty: .....the tranny slid right in :Brow:
