i have lost my tranny for my 55 special...wont work...lots of parts in the oil pan. was thinking of changing to a 350 tranny with adapter...wondering though if the third member out of a newer buick will fit my rear end...that would eliminate the torque tube and just have to get a drive line fitted...thanks...

i don't know if your 55 is the same as a 57 but a 3rd member from a 61 or 62 will bolt right in. your going to have to do something with the bars in the rear to keep it in place.

    good luck

The Olds rear will center section will not fit your Buick but will make a ggod replacement if you want to put in the entire rear.
I believe the 55 rear is the same as the 57 rear but not sure. You will definately need to change the rear 'wish bones'/locating bars if you go to open drive.
The conversion will take some work but I feel the th350 will make the car much more enjoyable to drive.
