I have a friend selling a car to a guy in CT and he asked me if I could get it there for him. The new owner is paying the hauling costs. It appears that there are 2 best ways to get there but I can't figure toll costs for either route. The one is out I 80 then up to I-84,etc and the other is a flatter run out 80 to Jersey then hooking up toward New Haven to ward Hartford. Anyone take these routes and suggest one over the other?? I'll be using my dually and open aluminum trailer for the run.Am I out of line thinking $1500 to cover time, fuel, tolls both ways? BTW..the mileage is 300 one way and fuel costs here are $5.00 a gallon. If that helps. No idea on toll prices.

5 bucks a loaded mile is about double the normal rate. My absolute top dollar would be about 700 bucks for that.

I've been up that way a lot over the past few years. Definitely the 80/84 route. It's probably shorter/quicker/same tolls 80 to 287 to 684 to 84. Only toll is across the Tapanzee (now Mario Cuomo) bridge (there may be a westbound toll for trailers on 287 west of the bridge)

Depending on time of day, New Haven/I-95/The Bronx is to be avoided at ALL costs, plus its expensive. Come up 80 to 81 in Scranton, then 84. If youre already east of Scranton, next best choice is the Tappan Zee, as described above.

i would take 80 to 81 to 84. cross over ct river to rt 2 which goes to glastonbury. only toll is newburg bridge. and a nicer view ride.
now if you like traffic, accidents and tolls, go the other route.
btw, glastonbury is about 15 miles from me

I'll only venture over to 95 in very off hours unless absolutely necessary and never across the GW Bridge & through NYC/Bronx no matter the time.

Edit: 84 east/west in CT can be a mess too depending upon the time of day. Connecticut traffic is just awful.

I'm so glad I don't live in that super congested area of the US! I hate driving in the twin cities, but I know it's a cake walk compared to the northeastern congestion.

I go along with the 80 to 84 route, but The GW bridge route is OK except during rush hours. Bear in mind the rush hours are about 6 AM to about 10 AM, and again from about 2:30 PM to about 7:30 PM weekdays. Northbound, Sunday PM can be a bi--h too. The upside is the great view of NYC.
I also go along with Joe, I paid a lot less then that to have the Buchev shipped from Eastern Massachusetts to SW Florida.

If I can cut out any bridge, that's my go to route... The car is an 86 or 88 Iroc Camaro non running and ill be alone to unload myself.just trying to be fair but not take a beating on it.My truck gets an average 10-11 mpg towing.

So you looking 60 gals of fuel at 300 plus some tolls, and food if you don't pack. So no way 200. So a 1000 under the table profit for a long day of work... not bad.

Not sure how you travel but I know towing i can generally knock 750ish miles a day out

Not hi-jacking just asking. Are you saying you guys are paying by the mile to drive on a public road.... At 5 bucks that's freaking NUTZ.... From what hear the roads are all in terrible condition...

Exactly what I was thinking. About 20 minutes to half an hour longer, but the Newburgh Beacon Bridge is cheaper than the Tappan Zee (Cuomo) Bridge. Ride is nicer and for sure less traffic. Direct route to Ct. and totally skip NJ. My preferred way to go.

I calculate the rate at $2.50/mile for both ways. Pat never mentioned a paying back haul to help cover costs.

It's been at least 10 years since my last trip into that area. I do remember I-84 through Hartford having numerous curves. Looking at a map, I might suggest taking I-691 east from I-84 to I-91 north, which shows as a left lane exit. Then take CT 3 across the Connecticut River to CT 2.

Hopefully some local people will chime in with additional info.

Not a hauler, but I agree to avoid GWB, I95. NYC at all costs. Tolls, roads, traffic are horrendous. An extra 100 miles would be justified. last time I went to Long Island NY from north Jersey (2hrs each way) to make a deposit with Jason. Cost me $100 in fuel, $125 in tolls, and a $425 Michelin. Never mind the beating on the LIE and GWB. $1,500 all day long!

If the guy is willing to pay then obviously charge. I'd bet a cold beer that if he gets another quote you'll lose the job.

He's already asked 4-5 guys and they are too busy or not interested. I don't need to do this,so if I get eliminated from the deal,No sleep will be lost. My truck cost me $509 a year for registration..I am not doing a freebie for anyone except me..
