Top of Windshield Material for a vert

I'm in process of tearing everything down for a rebuild, and got around to getting the windshield trim pieces off. Here's the question. On top of the winshield where the top comes in contact, what material did they use? It looks like a heavy duty piece of black vinyl tape. Can someone confirm or send me in the right direction to procure. I'm trying to get all the items I need ordered so that I have them on hand once I start putting everything back together.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Yep. It's a strip of vinyl. For a quick reference, go to eBay and search on "vinyl header." Not saying you should buy it there, but you can see what it is...

Go to any auto interior shop and have them cut you a piece of the correct vinyl........48" long by 6" wide. Use contact rubber adhesive to install the item.

6" is probably wide enough but get a little extra width just to make sure you won't have to "curve" the vinyl at all. You want enough width/length to cover the WHOLE ARC of the top of the windshield area as it lays flat on top of the frame...in a relaxed position.

You may want to give it a pull forward/backward as you glue it on to get it tight and some side to side...but not to make it fit or cover. This minimizes the chances of wrinkling and you get a nice smooth surface.

Once it's glued in place and dried you can trim off the excess that's hanging over the front and rear portions of the top of the windshield. Leave plenty in the back so the textured metal pieces (2 of these) cover it well.
