Hi, I was hoping for a little insight on a problem I am having with my 71 GS convertible. The top gets pinched at both sail panels when it is in the lowered position. The shop that put the top on has been no help. Thanks!
Re: Top gets pinched when it is in the lowered position on the sail panel, both sides Your pads are in the wrong position. When you place your top down, stop about 1/2 way and reposition the pads manually and check on them as the top is lowered. Common problem w/A-body converts.
Re: Top gets pinched when it is in the lowered position on the sail panel, both sides Agree with George, common problem. As he said, at the 1/2 to 2/3 down position, pull the loose top material back and watch it as it goes down to keep it towards the rear of the car. This is the only way you'll ever get your boot cover to cover the folded top assy.
Re: Top gets pinched when it is in the lowered position on the sail panel, both sides Too bad I did not read this thread earlier. I noticed the pinching and the next time I put the top down it pinched it enough to put two small holes in the convertible top right above where the driver enters the car. The top is almost new, but I'm not sure if holes a bit smaller than a pencil eraser in diameter can even be fixed. Arghhh.
Re: Top gets pinched when it is in the lowered position on the sail panel, both sides Per Owner's Manual; "...(lower) until top assembly is approximately two (2) feet from the fully lowered position. The top material and pads must be gently pulled rearward from between the operating arms... ...lower the top to its full down position." Doing this once and never putting the top up again in more than 8 years has worked for me...
Re: Top gets pinched when it is in the lowered position on the sail panel, both sides Reposition them where? Thanks
Re: Top gets pinched when it is in the lowered position on the sail panel, both sides You want to position the pads directly over the folding arms....those are the ones that stretch and pinch the top.....if you watch closely from inside...you will see what I mean.
