Had new top installed less than year ago; It rained and froze the other night car was outside in prep to go to local cruise-in following day. It seems that almost all of the rear section of the top pulled the staples out at the rain gutter where it attaches. The top shop was SUPPOSED to replace both of the tack strips when replacing the top (at least i was billed for it and the Year one strips were not returned to me when completed). Has anyone else ever heard of the top detaching in this fasion. The previous top had been installed for the original owners way back in 1985, (yes, eighty-five) and had seemed to be holding at the back, just ripped on the sideat the mechanism. Shop is currently closed for holiday/ vacation, so I haven't been in contact with them.

Bad tack strip or they used short staples instead of long ones. No way to tell until you get the rear drain-channel bow out and inspect it.

a good choice of staples are the stainless bi-directional chisel point ones they twist two directions when they go in so pulling them out is not just a straight affair.
plus chisels fit tighter than blunt point.
stainless of course resists rust. i think nickel plated are sometimes used by some shops. i prefer the stainless.
but like previously mentioned ... if they are too short, it just about dont matter what they are made of.

Just pulled one of the staples out from the top. Not quite 3/8 inch on each leg. Don't seem to be even as heavy as staples used to hold up screen on porches; Definitely not even as thick as the thinnest paper clip I've ever seen; barely thicker than ordinary household staples. HMMM.

You found your problem...those should be 3/4" staples.

    Thanks, George!
And i have been using that shop for all of my needs. They even had a partial bolt of the CORRECT 1982 and 1984 grand national/ T-type material (not the repro stuff) sand grey, if memory serves me correct.
