I have the color code as T for Sandalwood in 1972, but I have a discrepancy for 1971. I have E as the code for Sandalwood. Is that right?? Would they change it from year to year like that?
Adam I have an E on my 71 with the sandalwood top and interior, but I do see a T on my Fischer body Buyout Sheet (I think Duane said the T on that sheet mean some trim option though). My 71 Buick assembly manual, 71 Fischer Body manual, and my 64-72 Buick parts catalog ALL show E as sandalwood. Where are you getting the T? o No: Oh I reread your post. I assume they changed it from E to T in 72.
interestingly, Autocolor doesn't show a 'Sandalwood' for 71 but they do show a 'Sandpiper'. the Ditzler color codes are different from 71 to 72 anyway, so Buick must have changed the specific shade of 'off white' they were using. 71 = 2181 or Sand(?) 72 = 2441 or Covert http://autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-bin/search/searchpic.pl?1971-buick-pg01.jpg http://autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-bin/search/searchpic.pl?1972-buick-pg01.jpg
Right, but I need a Top color code. Specifically Vinyl and Convertible tops. I'm under the belief that even though they did away with "Sandalwood" as an official top and interior color in 72, there were still lots of people that called it Sandalwood.
Sandalwood in '72 EEEEEEEEHH! Wrong. Sandalwood WAS an official interior, convertible and vinyl top color in 1972. I have a 1972 Color and Trim book in my hands as I type this and it does list Sandalwood for all three above. There is even a Sandalwood PAINT color for 1972! Sandalwood PAINT was Sales Code J (paint code 50) Sandalwood INTERIOR 3 digit code ended in a "4". Sandalwood VINYL TOP was Sales Code 5. Sandalwood CONVERTIBLE TOP was also Sales Code 5. Sandalwood was known as Covert in "GM speak". :Smarty:
That's funny.... I saw the covert in my parts book, but didn't make the connection to Sandalwood! I'm pretty slow, and need things spelled out for me... :bglasses: 72 Trim Chart TRIM NO. UMMMM Brad...I think you better hide when Beth sees this...You just joined an elite club by bashing her Sandalwood...I know, I am president..  ou: Pat
The assembly manual for 72 usually lists the sandalwood interior stuff as covert. Maybe Sandalwood was a word that Buick used to describe that color, and Fisher body preferred covert?
Just to follow up, the data plate code for Sandalwood (Covert) for 1972 top colors was "T". I do like Sandalwood, I have an 72 Electra 2dr that is Champaign Gold with a Sandalwood top and Sandalwood interior. Sharp looking combo! I agree Carl, Sandalwood was Buick's name and Covert was Fisher Bodies.
I am aware that T is the code for 1972 Sandalwood/Covert, etc But the original intent of this thread was to confirm that E was the code for 71 Sandalwood. Bueller? You guys are having wayyyy too much fun with this thread:laugh:
