what rings make the most power on a 5/64 5/64 3/16 ring pack is there anything better than the old file fit speed pros?

T/A sells Total Seal ring sets that are available in .030 and .035 that probably are higher quality and more closely inspected than the .035 Speed Pro sets. As a side note, because of the low rpm range of most Buick 455 engines, it is unlikely that thinner rings, such as 1/16 that require custom pistons, would yield much of a power gain below 6,000 rpm.

yeah i was going to go with the .038 but i thought if i didnt blow it up id get another re bore out of this block. i already have the pistons so i thought id check and see what rings you guys make more power with.

anyone have any leak down numbers, speed pro vs. total seal?

I don't have the numbers anymore, but in the late '80's I went from standard type rings in my 430 to first generation Total Seal rings when it was overbored. I remember a significant improvement in leakdown, and the original rings were not badly worn so I was pleasantly impressed with the comparison.

The only problems I know of using Total Seal Rings is that the top end of the engine needs to be sealed pretty well or else you end up using oil that gets sucked down the guides past the seals.

My motor is getting the Total Seal treatment also. From older articles I've read about the performance of these rings, you can realistically expect leakdown numbers in the range of 1% - 5%. That's why I'm going with them.
