just came across 68 gs that looks like a manual trans car.sterring column, rubber boot on fire wall, brake pedal changed.car does not have orig mtr or trans. My ? is is this car so rare as to afford 2 new 1/4s, rocker panels and trunk floor.car now has blown 455 with th 400 and 12 bolt rear.I can use it as parts car ie boxed control arms, sport steering wheel, rad support, etc.any input will be appreciated.thanks scott
Within reasonable bounds. Doesnt sound salvagable to me. What are you going to have when its finished? A non matching numbers 68 GS?. Its a stick, big deal. The price of the finished product just doesnt justify the massive expense to restore it
Aslong as you have a lot of money and you like it, then the classics should be saved. okay, okay, I don't mean the ones that are completely rotted with no floors, no quarters, rot everywhere. But as long as its salvageable and you have the money, knowledge and time and some more money, I would save it. To me if I put it together or had a ton of money to fix it, it would still be a classic car to me, whether its numbers matching or not (although yes it is better for number matching).
tough decision as I am putting 69 together now and the 68 has parts I could use inner fenders and decent core support, boxed control arms etc.from the fenders back the 68 is shot its wheel openings have been opened up to look like the 70's not sure what a fair price would be to offer the owner either I see that 68 pos on ebay going up up up but has #'s matching goodies scott
Offer him as little as possible. You can always go up in your offer. Its not so easy to come down in your offer. And if he says yes too fast, you offered too much!
Jason made him an offer and he accepted now thanks to YOU i paid to much.ha ha Now I can really decide if its salvagable thanks all for the advice
Seems like there are a lot of parts you could sell ... even over time ... to recoup your investment if you don't want to spend the money on a resto.
