Thank you for all your comments. I’ve been reading a lot of your historical replies on this topic and they’ve all been very useful for my understanding. I think I want to put 15s on the rear on my stock 68 convertible and leave my stock 14x6s on front, so I’m trying to figure out if I should try to find 2 original 15x7s Buick rallye wheels with the 4 3/8” backspace or buy 2 reproduction 15x7s (with 4 inch backspace) or buy reproduction 15x8s (with 4.5” backspace). Unless you get those custom ones, I don’t think you can find Buick rallyes with 5” backspace in a 15 inch wheel?
Correct. They have to be custom built. I tried over 2 years ago with Wheel Vintiques. They took my money, made me wait 2 years, then cancelled my order and refunded my money. Reason, they no longer do custom back spacing.
Back in 1990s, I put a 71-72 8.5 10 bolt posi rear end under my 67 GS and had rear tire rub problems with my 15" buick wheels and drag tires. Found a guy who made custom wheels for circle track racers near Nashville. Told him to put 1" spacer at the backside of my wheels. Welded beautiful beads and no leaks on a lathe. I now have four 15"x 8 Buick rally's offset inside and no rubbing problems. One pair for MT street radial and a pair for street pro radials.
1971 and up 15x7 are 4 3/8” bs and 1970 WG is 4” according to to this article. http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/WGwheel.htm However many charts floating around including teambuick’s site say all are 4 3/8”. I think that’s what I want to get then. Original 15x7 with 4 3/8” bs.
