So. Need to change the cam in my BBB. Removed all necessary parts. Awaiting new cam etc. Wondering if this timing chain cover is the hipo TA #1533A. I have no way of contacting the previous owner. The casting number on it is as shown in the pictures. TA 1531B. That # isn't even in their catalog. Anyone know? 20230606_181239.jpg

If it’s a TA assembled pump they stamp whatever thickness gasket they used to assemble the pump I believe on the top by the distributor.

1531B is the TA Timing cover for the 400-430-455. Yes, it is in the catalog.

As stated above, when TA assembles the pump, they stamp the end clearance into the cover.

Thx Larry. Where would I find that end clearance. It might be painted over.

You should still be able to see it, paint or not. It isn't necessarily one that TA assembled. Put a dial indicator on the end of the oil pump drive and move it up and down. That can give you an approximation of the end clearance, I would not worry about it, but I know you will.:)

Thx again Larry. As you know from talking to me, the #7 exhaust valve lobe wiped out. I will be taking the oil pump apart to see if there's any scoring. The distributor gear is fine. Hopefully I can get away with just replacing the cam lifters springs etc. I could use a break with this car already.
