So. Need to change the cam in my BBB. Removed all necessary parts. Awaiting new cam etc. Wondering if this timing chain cover is the hipo TA #1533A. I have no way of contacting the previous owner. The casting number on it is as shown in the pictures. TA 1531B. That # isn't even in their catalog. Anyone know?
If it’s a TA assembled pump they stamp whatever thickness gasket they used to assemble the pump I believe on the top by the distributor.
1531B is the TA Timing cover for the 400-430-455. Yes, it is in the catalog. http://www.taperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TA_1531B As stated above, when TA assembles the pump, they stamp the end clearance into the cover.
You should still be able to see it, paint or not. It isn't necessarily one that TA assembled. Put a dial indicator on the end of the oil pump drive and move it up and down. That can give you an approximation of the end clearance, I would not worry about it, but I know you will.
Thx again Larry. As you know from talking to me, the #7 exhaust valve lobe wiped out. I will be taking the oil pump apart to see if there's any scoring. The distributor gear is fine. Hopefully I can get away with just replacing the cam lifters springs etc. I could use a break with this car already.
