On my 79 firebird with a buick 455 i recently switched the qjet for a holley 850, but my question is, what do you use for a throttle bracket? the original qjet one sits too high, and it will only open the throttle about 40% or so.. do i need a new throttle cable to run a holley? also, at a local speed shop I bought a bracket that is supposed to work (the kind that's held down with one of the carb bolts, but that one opens the throttle even less. what am I doing wrong here?
Mr Gasket makes a plate that sandwiches in between the manifold and carb. It also attaches an adjustable cable bracket. Jegs part # 720-6035, take a look, might be what you need.
Autozone or Discount auto also carry a bracket that bolts under the Left rear carb bolt that is adjustable for your cable. It lined up perfectly with my 850DP.
my car may be different because it is a firebird.. i dunno? but i have one of those brackets and it doesnt seem to do it right.. maybe this one just isnt adjustable enuf? im not too sure.. can you maybe take a pic of the setup so i can see if it sits any differently?
Car shouldn't make any difference with the universal bracket. as it bolts to the carb. Unless you have a different cable setup. Here is a pic of the bracket I have. go to page 2 and see the post by Jim Weise, there is a really good pic there. hth http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...highlight=Throttle Cable Bracket&pagenumber=2
hmmm That bracket in Jim's post is the EXACT same one i have here.. and i dont think that one will work.. it only opens about 30% of the throttle, but that could be an issue with the cable maybe? but also, on the throttle cable there is a plastic type sleeve over the end of it, and when that bracket is on the rear left of the carb, it would only work about a max of 40% throttle because that plastic thing hits on it. now im really confused ;p
I'm at work at the moment.. whenever I get home ill take a picture so you can see.. it looks basically the same as the others, just doesnt work properly ;p
