I am certain that everything they cited them for was illegal by california state law. I still think its screwed up though. Kids that spend time fixing up their cars are usually not out selling drugs and stealing stuff. Its pretty sad, so many freedoms are evaporating due to regulation. No wonder the kids are all sitting on couches getting fat playing video games.

I agree that you need to see the whole story. But the comment made by one cop "If you're not street racing, then why do you need more power", how do they know these cars aren't setup to run at drag strip. How many cars on here are setup to race on the track, but still get driven on the street. I would like to hear the complete story to see what really happened.

Kalifornia enacted a new law this January which prevents any big rig owner/driver from running their engines for more than 5 minutes. They are alos not allowed to operate any other alternative diesel power source in order so that they can stay cool/warm during off duty periods.

This means that they cannot be allowed to rest or sleep in the same comfort that most any other person is allowed. This means that if I am in Kalifornia during the hot summer months, where I've seen 115 F daytime and 85 F nighttime temperatures, I am NOT allowed to sleep with any airconditioning in my truck.:af:

Fines start at $300.00 and go up to $3,000.00 per day. The police reasoning: drivers are just going to have to get a hotel/motel room to get their proper rest.

I have a better idea, I'm not ever going back to Kalifornia in a truck.:puzzled:
Perhaps other truck drivers will do the same.

Back to the thread at hand.

I just read a book called Arrest Proof Yourself. It should be required reading to graduate High School. Here's a review.

The criminal justice system has turned into a vast industry. It preys on the lowest common denominator not those that do the most damage to our society.

Honestly, and sadly, this story isn't all that hard to believe. I have a friend who lives in LA and he tells me about how bad it is for car enthusiasts- his camaro is heavily modified but he still has new york plates on it to keep the donut patrol off his back.

Even around here in upstate ny, once or twice during the season, the cops will show up at our cruise night, block the exits and then get on the bullhorn saying we have 5 minutes to get out or they will start towing cars. Meanwhile, tow trucks show up just to make the threat "real" and everyone jumps in thier cars but can't get out because the moron cops are blocking the exits to the lot! They mostly target the ricers and new cars, all the "real car" guys know to just drive to the next lot over and wait, then when all the rice and cops are gone, we come back. I don't see the problem with gathering there, it generates a TON of business for the dunkin donuts and the domino's there, and the only "streetracing" is not done IN or in front of the lot, it's done far from there. Last year a friend of mine showed up and was ticketed for having the car registered with the wrong color because the color it's painted can be either green or blue depending on how you look at it. Complete BS and they should stop wasting thier time. I agree, go to the projects and bust crack dealers not guys enjoying thier hobby.  :blast:

If that's legal, what stops them from going to a sanctioned car show or drag race event and waiting by the exits? Whats next? They gonna come to my house and ticket me when I order a new cam?

I wouldn't think the cops could write modified auto tickets for a parked car on private shopping center property.

That would be Idle Aire, which last time I checked, costs about $2.00 per hour, meaning about $20.00 per night minimum. With diesel fuel at $4.00/gallon, and heading north of that, who can afford another $20.00 per night. Idle Aire is not installed in every truckstop either. There has been discussion about other alternatives, such as electrical hookups similar to campgrounds, but that is still in the future.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I cannot get a good sleep when it's 90 to 100 degrees in my sleeping area. What pisses me off about this law, is that every politician has no clue about what us drivers deal with every day. It is plain arrogance, pure and simple, using the guise of environmental friendliness.

Trucks manufactured for 2009 will be the cleanest running ones you have ever seen. Current testing shows virtually no soot, and very little NOX emissions. In fact, one engine manufacturer performed a white cloth test, where they placed a white linen (I think) cloth over the exhaust stack, and it wasn't soiled over the test period.

One day, when all those farmers cannot ship their precious produce out because fewer and fewer trucks will enter that state, then maybe the politicians will understand.

Joe, if I recall correctly, in NY state the temp has to be either below 25 F or above 75 F, and I'm not too certain about that higher temp. I try to avoid NY state too.

Interesting that we are involved in a war to fight for Iraqi freedom and democracy, but you can't peacefully congregate with your friends at a parking lot in the United States.

So, the moral of the story is go to work, pay your taxes, go home afterwards and hide in your basement.

I have been to at least 4 countries outside of the US and I have never seen more cops than in this country. Oops! I better shut up or I'll get tasered.
Maybe it's still safe in Alaska.

I am not badmouthing the U.S., I'm just saying please lighten up. I don't understand how parking cars toegether in an empty parking lot is hurting anyone.

I can agree on all that, except the only other country I've been to is canada, on an interstate, and it seemed like there was the same amount of cops lol.

About parking cars in a lot to hang out- they assume that there will be streetracing taking place, and some of the import crowd has been known to be selling drugs at these cruise-in spots. Also, around here we have a problem with the people who need to stay in the projects and out of our cruise fighting and carrying on like it's a damn rap music video. Thats what attracts the cops more than just a bunch of guys hanging out and bench racing. Some of the owners of the private lots complain, even though thier stores are closed at night or open and getting more business thanks to the cruise scene there, so the cops have to do something about that too.

We should start taking bets on how fast the cops will show up at our doorsteps when we order new gofast goodies from TA in 2015 lol.

We need more old fashioned drive-in burger joints so at least we can have an excuse to cruise in and hang out all night!

I agree with the concern about drug deals, private property, etc.

But, for an example. In St. Paul alot of gear heads used to hang out on University Avenue. For years. Since the 50's.

About 7-8 years ago the cops turned a fun Friday and Saturday night into a hastle. Undercover cops all over the place. The fire department watered down the street and they were handing tickets out like candy. Why? Because when people are enjoying themselves the first thing the cops do is make sure it stops. :Do No:

Yeah I hear ya on that- our cruise here has been going for about 20 years... maybe more... I've only been around it the past 5-6 years, but it's slowly shrinking thanks to the cops causing trouble for guys just wanting to hang out and cruise around. This year's turnout looks good though... I was there saturday night and it was very busy for early april when usually no one shows... maybe this year it'll be good :Do No: but then the cops will get all antsy to spoil the good fun. I have to say, the cops don't bother the muscle car guys as much (myself included)... we just come back when the cops leave... some of the local PD even hangs out there with us (it's a dunkin donuts   ) The ricers really get it hard though, even the newer muscle like LS1 camaros and GTOs, and mustangs get it pretty hard too.

This reminds me of an incident that happened to me over spring break.-

It's a beutiful day and I decide to drive my nova to the pier and go fishing with some buddies (a pier right next to the golden gate bridge). We get to the pier and my buddies start drinking some brews, I didn't drink (a rare occurance) because I was driving. I cop eventually shows up and asks who has been drinking. I say that I havn't and my buddies admit that they have. Because he didn't beleive me the cop calls in 4 other cop cars and searches/breathalizes me. After I was breathalized ( and blew a 0.00) the cop tried to write me a ticket for MIP. I told the cop that he could not give me a ticket for possesion of something that wasn't mine and that I had obviously not been drinking, the cop took back the ticket after commenting "I'ts your lucky day punkass" :puzzled: . I was polite to the cop the entire time and he treated me like ****, I feel like something needs to change in California law enforcement.
