Man this is car is driving me nuts!!!Finding all the parts to build the motor, Making my own roller rockers( I had to have a adjustable valve train!!) Getting the motor to fit was "fun" in and out about 15 times headers hitting or to close, or my modified oil pan hitting the crossmember.Making an air cleaner that would fit under the hood, Getting the hyd clutch geared up ,building the rear end, e-brakes,and on and on! But the latest thing is after driving it FINALLY!! around the block a few times. It gets jammed in second gear! The problem was the shifter was worn out! Figures it the only part on the whole car thats not new or rebuilt!!! So I bite the bullet and buy a new shifter ( Hurst $550!!Canadian) I get it in the car all pumped up! Thinking this is the last big purchase!!! but the ding dongs at Hurst package it wrong! 1 part (arm on trannny 1-2 gear) is not the right part (won't work)# so I phone out to Hurst in CA. ( nice phone bill I'm betting) and they say fax us your bill and we will mail you the right one! Thats great I thought! They say they will send it in the mail!!! That could be 2 weeks with the post office customs ect....!!!!! I had to wait a month for tires! Should be here next week?
Almost makes me think I should have bought a Camaro and pluged and played!!!! NOT!!!
    Sorry just had to vent!!!:af:
    I feel better now!

Well I started by buying a set of jessel rockers from a nascar team (e-bay purchace $40) to get all the adjusting screws washers , nuts and roller tips. Get an oddball ratio as no one wants them!! The tips actually have needle bearings not just a dowel pin and bushing! Nascar uses stuff once and dumps it! Great for us Car guys! On the box they came in it said D.E.I. the year they were used the track , the date of the race and the mileage! Kind of cool I thought!
Then I measured the valve train and made some drawings (sketches) One thing I did notice was the saddles for the shafts were not all the same when I measured. They were up and down up to .008 in my heads! So I bought a ball nose end mill and corrected that. I made the rocker arms from 7075 aluminum . I also had to cylindrical grind the stock shafts so they were round and on size!( I went threw a few pairs till I found some that would clean up on size. They squish around the hold down bolts! I made spacers for the hold down bolts so that wouldn't happen again. They also act as spacers for the rocker arms . I also used aluminum tube machined to space the rockers where they had to go.Instead of springs. I didn't make mine left and right .I made them all the same , so I had to mill the shaft pedistal area on the head to get the clearances.
I have pictures on my digital camera but for the life of me I can't figure out how to post them!
It was a fun project took some time, but time I had money ...not so much!
They cost me around $250 to build with all the torrington bearings for the shaft area.
I just had to have an adjustable valve train , didn't make sense not to have that!
My engine builder was floored. Thought they were the greatest thing! He said he had just finished a GN turbo 6 cyl. and had to get the roller rockers custom made from T&D and cost a ton of money! He also said there was no way I would break one of them, and It was kind of overkill for a street engine!
Hope that gives you some tips when you build your own!
    Brad
