I went and looked it up. They recommend you use 0.35 times the ounces of R-12 called for on the original R-12 system. That's about a third. Look on original sticker on compressor or look in shop manual for full R-12 charge quantity and divide by 3. That's not much! You are probably overcharged. Don't try to clear the sight glass, that is too much charge.

    71skylark3504v,
How did the Duracool work out for you?
I'm not a fan yet, but I'm open to sucess stories to add to my personal knowledge base. I'd like to hear the results, pro or con.
Like i said, nailheadina67 is the Duracool guru. Contact him if you have problems. If Duracool can work in your system, he can tell you how.

Used Duracool in the 67 Sportwagon 340 after disassembling and cleaning the pipes and replacing all the o rings with the high tech green version compatible with everything. After discovering a pinhole leak in one of the rubber hoses, had new hoses built using the old ends and new connectors with new hoses that are lined. Instead of the full 3 3/4 can charge, we used only 3 cans to stablilize the system and check for any problems or leaks. The results are that the air coming out of the vents is probably the coldest air conditioning in any car we've owned. The instructions state that using enough Duracool to clear the site glass may be overcharging the system so bubbles are not the definitive indicator of being fully charged or not. My research indicated the flash point for Duracool was about 1600 degrees while the flashpoint for freon (and maybe 134) was about 800 degrees. I am very impressed with the outcome of converting to Duracool and ordered more for another freon system in another car. Just my .02.

P.S. We always pull a vacuum of 30 inches of mercury on the low side before charging the system.

Well, it did not work very well for me and neither does 134a. However, am I definitely not saying the Duracool was at fault, its my AC system somehow.
