Hi Looking for suggestions on where I can find a new Thermostat Housing for a 455. TA and other places only show a cast iron replacement. It must weigh 5 lbs. Definitely won't look cool on the powder coated B4B w/ Holley Street Avenger. Any suggestions where I might look for a chrome or aluminum replacement? Thanks for the help. Also does anyone have the oem part number for the damper bolt washer? It is about 1 5/8 in diameter & very thick. dukec :beer :beer
Does anyone make a NEW aluminum Thermostat housing for the Buick motors? Bonus points if it's anodized Blue or Red and looks all purdy
Ok, now I just need to come up with a New Aluminum thermostat housing. Doesn't anyone here have a line on them?
I'd just buy a used one I sold a NOS one a few yrs back, because side by side it looked no better than my used ones. If the used one has a bad spot or two, clean it up with some sand paper first.:Smarty:
I bought an aluminum 360 degree swivel thermostat for a chevy from Summit for 69.95. It required some grinding to fit on the 455 but it looks awsome and will rotate any way. Looks a lot better than that ugly 5 lbs dog looking cast iron one from TA. Blair :af: :af: :af:
I have been thinking about making these, but there is a lot of work involved to machine this from solid, I just want to see if there is enough interest to do this. If so, then I will move foward. Rob
Too bad you cant get the casting patterns. If you're gonna make something like that, maybe you can leave a provision for a motorized thermostat disc so us street/strip guys can get an electronic controller to run at 195 degrees on the street, and 160 degrees at the track... Otherwise, from a marketing perspective, I can't see these being big sellers. They don't often break or wear out (to my knowledge). -Bob Cunningham
I think there would definately be a market for a piece like this.:TU: Especially if the price was reasonable.
Rob @billet designs PM me if you decided to make thermostat housing or not??? Rich Martel 70 GS 455 BPG #1599
Rob Put me on the list for one with modifications. I would want the water neck to be straight out. Parallel to the bypass outlet. I went to an aluminum crossflow radiator last year. It has a much lower profile. I had my original aluminum outlet cut and put back together straight. Works great just not real purdy. Definitely would like a billet piece. Polished too if I get my choice.
Bill, Schmooze your local GM dealership parts man like I did/do. I just bought an NOS one from Ashley Motor Co. in Crossett, AR for $10.00, shipped to my door. Part #1380207 was sitting on their shelf collecting dust and now it's en route. :TU:
I saw 3 or 4 good used ones at a salvage yard today (aluminum). Until the other day, I didn't even know they made aluminum ones. My old 350 and current 455 both had stamped steel. I have learned more about our Buicks in the last few weeks than I learned the last 15 years. I love this site!!!
