Well, I bought a parts place 70 tri shield mirror over a year ago and I noticed that it seem "lighter" and "less dense" than my original. So I sent my original out for rechrome. 10 months later, finally got it back. Not show quality, but good for where I took it and what was charged.

After feeling the weight, my intent was to rechrome mine and remove the guts from the Parts Place repo and install into my original housing since my mirror was scratched. What a PIA to remove both the original and repo guide wires off. Then trying to put back together broke some of the new pot metal internals. A mix match of parts and it's back together and on the car.

Happy with rechroming my original and using the guts of the repo.

But not happy with the quality of the repo part once taking it apart. You can see where the top mounts to the bottom, the holes are large, sloppy and they use washers inside. If you weren't taking it apart, you wouldn't know.

I've included some pictures side by side and you can see the repo is slightly smaller, like 1/8" everywhere. Skip to save on everything. It’s like they made the repo 90% of the original size.

Not intended to bash, but just to show quality of what I found. I purchased it with the intent of just using it, but it was the weight that put me off and made it feel not quality.

Original on left, repo on right
