Fellas, I have had a couple of the GM Trucks..a 98 and 99 (Tahoe/Suburban) with the Vortec 350 and was really impressed with the long life and towing capability. The trucks were quite well on fuel when unloaded and when loaded they would still get close to 15 MPG. Once I sold the trucks and my trailer to venture into new territory for a couple of years, I will be getting back to the regular weekend drag racing and buying a new trailer (aluminum for sure).

The HT 383 Chevrolet was introduced a few years back and advertises big block torque in a small block package. I always thought that was a great idea until a few years ago when fuel prices shot straight up.

Since then I have aquired a full size 1992 Buick Roadmaster for the staggering price of free. It is equipped with a gutless anemic 305 and TBI. I need to keep the car 50 state smog legal and really am unhappy with the power of the turd 305 when considering sticking a trailer and car behind it.
After looking at the HT 383 I kinda decided that I could build a stroker 305 chevrolet that would be very close to the bore to stroke ratio of the SBB but be equipped with TBI, vortec heads and a roller camshaft.
Building a 334 ci SBC with the HT 383 recepie would net me close to 400 lbs/tq and close to 300hp while being smog legal.

I was wondering if anyone would think that there would be a drastic fuel consumption difference btwn the 383 and a 334? What about the leg work of building the 334 myself vs buying the 383 from GM....besides the cost. I can get a 383 cheaper on e-bay but just wanted a comparison on the headache.

Does anyone have experience with either one of these stroker SBC's??? Please let me know.
