I was looking at a DVD with vintage drag racing and spotted one of my favorite drag cars. It was built by students at Chrysler Engineering Institute in 1957-58. They called themselfs "Ramcharges" in their car was a 1949 Plymouth coupe that looked silly but I like it. There is a clone built but does anyone know where the real car is??? Have anyone seen the real one or the clone race? Any photos or video? Would love to see some.
Currently resides at the Chrysler Museum, in Auburn Hills MI, and is restored to its' former glory. Crazy stuff...and very simple.....all at the same time.
John Hamilton, Cindy's dad, is one of the original 13 Ramchargers...... We have some good pix and some good stories.
As I recall from my visit the one at the Chrysler museum is a tribute meant to be as close as possible. At least that's what I recall reading on the placard. o No:
Thanks for the link Korrie, it work great. Fun reading athe story of this drag car. I have found another site writing about it (http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/113_0704_ram_rod/index.html). They mentioned that the car might be gone so the one at the Chrysler Museum is probably the clone. But cars have been found before so maybe... Hey Casey. How about sharing some photos and stories. Would love to see and hear them. I have thought about building my own clone. Would be fun...
I saw the High And Mighty a week ago, or at least its recreation, plus Thornton, Buckel, Hoover, Jones Daniels etc of the Ramcharger team.
I watched it run at Central Michigan Dragway in the late 50s. I ws running a caddy powered "T" roadster pickup called The Hairy Canary in "A" roadster class. :3gears:
Old guy, Do you remember a D/A Model A Coupe running a Flathead back then? It was a burgundy/Maroon color and named "Little Whine-O". It was owned by two brothers from Owosso, Fred and John Pirochta. I worked with John at Olds Engineering in design, and Fred was the Service Manager at University Olds in Lansing. Neat car, usually ran at Onondaga with the other Olds guys.
