The only thing that could make this thread better would be to remove the photos of Scott W's car in the first post.
A lot of this info was posted on the BPG site, which I believe is gone now. I wouldn’t mess with the initial post here. If it gets deleted all this will be gone, and I am not typing all this again. Duane
Here's another prototype that's been discussed here previously. There are other pictures somewhere but this is the only one I could find after a quick search. I wish they'd have offered the N-25 in '70. I think it looks pretty cool.
We think this might be the first “iteration” of Brad’s car. That’s his rear bumper and trumpets. That rear end stripe treatment is just paint on the trunk lid and qtr extensions. That was a very early version during the GSX design process. Way before the yellow car. Duane
I just mean delete the photos of his copycat, not the post itself because it would delete the thread.
Sure looks like a early version of his car.. Wondering how they got the Olds Bugle tips? Through the parts department? Did the Old's people give them willingly? Or a Buick Spy infiltrated Old's and hid them under his spy coat?
I know the tips were on the 69 442’s, so my thoughts are they got them out of the parts division. Also, Brad’s car came with a white bucket seat interior, but the above pictured car has a black interior. I believe they might have sprayed the white interior black for this iteration. When I got Brad’s seats all the plastic seat parts were white plastic painted black. The white plastic was disintegrating, so wherever that happened the white color would show through. They were a total mess, so when I redid his interior I found really nice black original pieces and used them. That alone made me figure his interior was painted black at one time. When you really dig into researching these types of things you almost have to go at it like you are a detective with re-constructing a crime. Otherwise you will never figure it out. Duane
Brett, Nope, the Wide Ovals were 14” tires, so you are looking at 14” rims. They are most likely F-70x14’s. PS, I need both of those pics and any more that you have. I had a set from that car but can’t find them. Duane
I'm scouring the internet as we speak. I remember those two and a few more being in an issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines. I'll have to dig through my stash later and take some pictures.
Here’a thread with some good photos and links about Brad’s X and other show cars. I know Hemmings Muscle Machines featured several pages of stripe styling studies (more of what Brett posted). I thought it was posted on here but can’t find it. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?th...at-was-supposed-to-be-destroyed.365739/page-2 Patrick
Did you notice two things about those pics of Brad’s car??? The placement of the GSX decals is on the roof sail panels, and the tires/rims are 14” Firestone Wide Ovals. That was originally where the decals were going to be put, but later design meetings canned that idea. Duane
The HMM article was April 2016. Here’s a link to it and the story on here about it: https://www.ebay.com/itm/223042233677 http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/1970-gsx-archives-pics-hemmings-awesome.307265/ Patrick
Brett, The car with the weird stripes doesn’t even have an engine in it, but it does have 70 Olds Sport Mirrors. I may have another idea on what that was changed into. Duane
