Hey all I posted awhile back w/pics of my '83 Regal. Well, on the way to the next town over (20miles) it blew a pinleak in the heater hose to the firewall. Well, the engine overheated. So, now it has a real heavy knock on the lower end, I'm thinking Crankshaft Bearing(s). SO in short, the buildup on the ol car is going to start sooner than I thought! QUESTION: How hard would it be to put a V8 Pontiac Engine/tranny in this Regal? I'm looking for a Buick donor car, but, all I've found is this Pontiac Station Wagon w/a V8and Tranny for 2hundred bucks? The SW runs and drives, ready for a "demo derby" so it's been stripped of junk. Will this engine/tranny( or my stock 350THM) work?
wow 33 views but nobody seems to know if I can put that Pontiac V8 in the Regal w/very little "trouble"........... CHEERS
"Snake"TU: ).....No disrespect, but this is the "V8 BUICK" (as in...V8 Buick engines) board. We are Buick guys (and girls) who believe in keeping our Buick's ALL Buick.:TU: As a side note though......some Regals did come from the factory with a VERY anemic 301ci Pontiac V8.ou: B(uick). O(lds). P(ontiac). transmissions are the same and interchange.
thanx thanx Kerry I'm a big Camaro fan, but I have a Regal at this moment. I understand one's "faith" to certain manufacturers. I was hoping to look PAST that and into just helping a bro out in getting his wheels back on the blacktop.
FAITH..............No this has nothing to do with us..........we want the BEST FOR YOU!!! After all once you drive the BEST you won't want anything less!! :beer
ok ok well, can ya tell me what my Rear end choices are? Of course I want posi, and alot of people "weld" the rearends around here. CHEERS
Well, if it gets you running a 305/350 SBC will be about the cheapest thing going. You could go to a 3.8L Buick v-6 rebuilt for around $800 then put in a posi 7.5 rear. With the SCB or the 3.8 I'd stay at a 3.42 gear or higher (numerically) or the car will feel like a modern 4-popper. Turnaround time would probably be 2 weeks, total cost around 1K. I rebuilt a 350 for $600 3 years ago, and did a 3.8 for about the same cost. Best of luck!
Thanx, but I've already decided to sell it and put w/it to get a motorcycle. Or do some trading on one w/it.
