Im cruising home from a buddies house about 8 at night. As im sitting at the stop light i hear a nice rumble come up next to me. I look over and see a 1970 Dodge Challenger 340-6 pack. The man says, "I like them buicks, but do you wanna run em?" I say yeah hoping that maybe ill win. But i do realize that those mopar 340's can make for some pretty quick small blocks. We take off the line dead even, then we get into second gear up to about 80. He beat me by a car length...it sucked!!!!! Lardo The Swine Lewis 68 GS-california 350(455 next summer)
as much as i hate to say it, mopars got power, but buicks got torque!, a buddie of mine found wut he thought was the "lil red express" bc it was red from dodge, but turns out by the BUILD SHEET it was the "midnight express", n he say the year it was made, nothing on the road could outrun it
Not bad If you stayed that close to that Challenger you're doing OK. He should have really put you away.
mopars The only beating I have taken to date in my '87 GN was from a 1970 Challenger, with a 383 and a Tremac 5spd. I hate to admit he got me three out of three times..... I didn't want to tell that story.........
Yeah its not really a big deal, I dont mind losing to other american cars THAT MUCH. I pretty much knew he was going to win anyway...oh well next summer the 455 will be put in!!!! Lardo The Swine Lewis 68 GS-California 350 (455 next summer)
Your 350 Skylark did fare really well against a 340/6 pack....But you DID get beat, and that matters too! Now use that for motivation to get your car running harder ASAP to WASTE that guy next time! Whenever I lose a race I get so pumped up to make sure it never happens again, at least not to the same guy! Get that 455 in there!
Holding that close to a 340 is a good thing. The 340 was NEVER installed in anything but a performance car. There was no mundane version. Nearly every car has a chance against another. There are so many variables. One of the best races I ever had was against a 69 SS 396 Chevelle. I was driving a 95 Dakota I ordered new. 318, 5 speed, 3:90 pos, hot computer. I followed him first before we met at the stoplight. I noticed his duals exhaust. One side was clean, the other was blowing some black smoke. A HA I thought, this thing is outta tune! The light turned green and we ran dead even light-to-light. Point is, you never know whats going on with the other vehicle. Now theres a few I won't even try. Like a WRX or last generation Camaro. But when it comes to the old cars, you never know whats up.
