    firewall tags

Some plants or some of the people working on the line would tape off the firewall tage...its not really painted silver its just raw aluminum...most i see are or have black over spray on them....thats what i would do...

I will just leave mine black then since it is already riveted back on and is painted up nicely with the rest of the firewall. I thought maybe there was some significance to it, but I guess there isn't!
If any of you guys come across a set of red tri-shield front floor mats, let me know! The RH taillight and a set of red front mats are the only things I don't have yet to finish the car. I found a set of NOS red ones for the rear a month or so ago. I would love to find NOS, but will take a useable set of used ones too.

    Picture Update

Well, I had Thurs and Fri off work last week, so I while the teenager next door was off school and could help me with the big stuff, I got motivated and put the time to good use. I got the front fenders, front bumper, cowl grille and a bunch of stuff in the under hood area installed:

And another. This weeks project is putting on all the AC hoses and vacuuming down the system to check for leaks, then putting the hood on New Years weekend while some friend will be at my house to help.

That is my goal--I am going to have it ready to show in either the AACA or GS club show at the spring Autofair in Charlotte--that will be its debut. I should have it all together by the end of Feb. and that will give me a month to work the bugs out of it before showing it.
You have to be careful putting the fenders on when they are painted, but I did it without chipping anything (other than where the bolts go--when you tighten them up, it always is going to chip the paint, but you just come back and touch up around those with some of the car paint and a brush when you are done adjusting everything). I always put towels around the ends of the bumpers when I put them on so I don't scratch the fenders in the process. Once I get it up there, I slide the towels out and adjust it.
I haven't heard back from Fred yet. I will call him later in the week if I don't hear from him--he had to check and see what he had.

I like the way your car sets, are you using stock springs? :beer

I have springs on the back off of a station wagon, which will make it set about 1" higher in the back than in the front once it is all together. Keep in mind that there is zero interior in my car right now, and once I put all the seats, carpet, carpet underlayment, door panels, door glass, rear quarter glass, etc. in the car, it will come down about 1- 1.5" from what it is right now. I did the same thing to my '64 Skylark and it came out perfect. If you want the car to just come out level, then you can use springs from a 4-dr. sedan car.

    65 Gs

    Harle ,

Looks like you and Brian are both going to have 1 fine 65 GS . I'm still trying to buy mine ( yours ) back . I think I'm close but if he won't sell I'm going to find another . I bought a 65 GTO after selling the GS and as you know now I'm sorry even though the GTO is one fine piece . I'll try and attach a picure . Anyway hope all is fine with you .

George, I head back from Fred, and the taillight he has is no better than the one I already have. He said he sold his mint set at the nationals a couple years ago.
I need a RH one that has no pits in the chrome areas that show. Pits in the black painted area is okay because I can hide them with filler and the black paint. All the ones I find are pitted in areas that show or they are cracked in that weak area up at the corner where the center emblem goes.

Got it out, washed all the dust/fingerprints off of it, and took some pictures:
