    That evil ford company.

Anyone know a site where I can get trouble code info and how to get codes for a 1990 ford truck. Its the 5.7FI one. I searched some but found nothing. Trying to help a buddy get his going. I think its not getting fuel. Also when you goto start it, it sucks the pedal to the floor.

Yea well it is a ford. He says it just does that after sitting a while. after it get going it will unstick. But it does suck the pedal to the floor when ya start it. He has to hold it up to stop it.

But I know its not getting fuel. He kep hinking if it get going on starting fluid it will get gas. But I keep telling him FI cars don't work like that. Why I want to pull computer codes and see whats up.

    James,

If you give me the trouble code # and kind of truck (f150, f250, etc), I can probably get the info on what the code means.

From what I understand of your problem, the truck cranks but doesnt run? It starts with starting fluid? Have you checked the fuel system? Do you hear the fuel pump turn on for 5 seconds when the key is rotated to the ON position? Have you put a fuel pressure guage to the fuel rail? If the fuel pump is not turning on or running ( you should hear the noise in the tank), make sure you have voltage going to the pump. In other words, make sure the pump is capable of running. Because fuel pump are basically electric motors, they develop bad armatures just like starters. If you dont hear anything from the tank and you have verified power and ground to the tank try this...With a buddy holding the key to the start position, take a rubber mallet and give the fuel tank a couple of good whacks. The pump may start at that point (just like a bad starter works by hitting it with a hammer). Hope this helps

    Fuel pump relay?

Isn't there a fuel pump relay controlling the fuel pump? I had this happen on my 89 F150 with the 4.9L six. Also an ECM relay was stuck in the closed position and ran my battery dead a few times. We found that with a trouble light in the battery ground circuit. (Light was lit, kept pulling fuses until it went out). It was located in the basic same location. Bought both cheap at Murray's and never had a problem again with either.

It's all Carl's fault, I know what he did at Ford. :Brow: :Brow:

Me, too. From 1984 to 1999. Vulcan 3.0 Probe program (ST16) or CT20? Unfortunately I had both.

Well I kinda just wanted to just know how to pull codes. Is there a paper clip trick for fords like Gm???

Getting this guy to do things how it should isn't easy. He isn't much on smarts n just get upset when he don't understand. He keeps insisting that it will start to suck gas if it gets going long enough on either. Of course it wont. he said you never hear the fuel pump but just a click when the key is turned to on. There is a loud click from that area.

I kind of just want to pull the codes, see what it says and then tell him hes screwed. Then he Will probably beat onthe intake with a monkey wrench to try and loosen something up so it runs. That sad to say, ignorant way of doing things.

I did a tune up on the truck not long ago or I would say lose plugs. he is the kind that wont tighten the plug more then finger tight on his 4wheeler, lawnmower..... as it to much trouble to find a wrench when ya need it and they run fine. He will do wheelies and run it at 90 up n down his street to prove they run fine.

he really shouldn't own a computer control car. I can see him trying to ripe off sensors n crap like people did to early emission stuff thinking they don't need it. it runs well enough.

Correct me if I am wrong. I think its an F150 and it has dual tanks.
So since its an FI engine wont there be a fuel pump in each tank?????

I asked him if he tried switching tanks yet and he said no.

Just one pump may be bad???
Been to cold to even work on it today.
-11 had to scrap ice off the screen door.
