Hi, I have a switch pitch TH425. when at WOT, it shifts 2-3 at about 80 MPH (about 4500 RPM). can this be increased without affecting part throttle shifts? Thanks.
You would have to modify the governor weights and springs. Not sure if the governor is similar to a THM400. Why does the title of your thread refer to kickdown? If the kickdown is not functional, that will cause the transmission to short shift at WOT.
The kickdown does work and the trans downshifts when the pedal is all the way down. The problem is that it upshifts sooner than I would like, both 1-2 and 2-3. I know the governor springs/weights will affect the shift points, but I wonder if this will affect part throttle driving, which is currently fine for my needs.
Possibly, but probably not. I believe the B&M governor kit will work for you. My advice is to buy another governor, and modify that. Keep your current governor so you can re install it should you need to. Change 1 thing at a time until you get the desired results. Start with the weights. Try ONE lighter weight. Road test and evaluate. It's trial and error, there is no way around it. The inner weights will elevate the WOT shift RPM the lighter you go. The springs will move the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts closer or further apart. Here are the instructions for the kit.
