Been driving my Electra now tediously to sort it out. One thing ive noted, is that when in low speeds, under load ( = steep uphill, low speed), it "stutters" when upshifting, like upshifting too eagerly upwards, and then barely getting itself collected back. The car is 83' Electra, 307 Vin Y, 3.23 gears, 225/75/15 tires. So its operating at really low engine rpm's aswell. New oil, filter at trans, and on level when hot. Not sure if its fault, since some modern truck robot-transmissions give the exact same sensation, when upshifting under load at low speeds. All comments are welcome.
Sounds like the trans is hunting for the right gear. My 700 r4 did the same thing.... adjustment on the TV cable could fix yours to hunt less might not. When I adjusted mine it helped but did not fix the problem still hunts ..... From what I understand the hunting is in all the 200 & 700 r4's and its just there....
Is it the 1-2 shift(band slipping, might be helped with a larger servo and/or adjusting the pin length to take up some clearance). Or the 2-3 shift? This might take a little more in depth dive into the trans possibly including a larger boost and rev boost valves and 700r4 spring in the pump to get the line pressure up. And/or going into the trans to replace or at least set the direct clutch clearance tighter to give a more crisp shift. As above a correctly adjusted tv cable that might have slipped could be a remedy. A gauge to see if the trans is loosing pressure in these situations. Up hill also makes me think the unit might be "sucking air". I run mine a quart over full. If the pressure is lost, the clutches and band cant apply giving a slip and slushy shift feel.
Torque converter clutch solenoid It’s locking up prematurely and the transmission short shifts and lugs the engine. Pretty common issue on the 2004R My GN that, it was pretty cool, like a manual trans
