Have 69 GS 350 with TH-350 auto. Traany was working pretty good until I put in a shift kit. Now it slipd taking off from a start but it does shift nice and crisp - it just feels like I am riding the clutch on takeoff and it finally catches. I installed the B&M kit for heavy duty calibration but I did not take out the 1-2 accumulator spring...yet. This wouldn't cause the slipping problem would it?

    Thanks,
    Dan

the accumulator spring will not cause the slipage I would look and make sure the plates were installed correct as this has happened to me a few years back.

whats the stall on your torque converter? i know that sometimes people install high stall converters and then shift kit the trans and the motor cant match it. so it slips and feels really soft. before i took a peek at the plates: *only because they are internal* i would look at the modulator. if it is adjustable it may need to be recalibrated for the new shift kit. all you do if you have one is slide the vacuum hose off and insert a small screwdriver into the slot. that will make it shift earlier and later depending on the way you turn. that could definately help you to see results. it did for me! at any rate keep us updated.

The converter is stock but I have a 2200-2400 stall converter coming from Jim Burek and will install that before I do anything. I'm pretty sure I got the plates right but I will try the modulator thing. How should I adjust it with the shift kit and higher stall converter? Also, after putting in the shift kit like a dumba@# I may have put in too much tranny fluid...could that cause my problems? If I did over fill I may have to replace all of the seals right?

hmm...with a stock converter i doubt your problem lies there. as for the modulator, off the top of my head turning that adjuster screw inside where the vacuum hose is *keep in mind not all new modulators have adjustments* i do believe turning it clockwise will make it shift sooner *firm and counterclockwise will make it shift later *soft*. turn it maybe 2-3 turns clockwise and take her around the block. noth the change and adjust accordingly. with my th-350 i had to fully let off the gas before it would go into 2nd gear and 3rd would kick in way too late. if this helps we can go onto that new converter. all you would do with that is readjust according to how the car feels. its all by the seat of your pants here. keep us updated. :TU:

this is my first buick so i havent done much but i worked at a custom transmission shop here in northern california that does a lot of rod/custom/muscle cars and what ive seen with people that think ideally that the more stall a converter has the better. not the case. if the motor cant put out enough ponies to keep us with that converter its gonna shift like a granny car all day long. i usually go about 500 over stock on them. it seems to really work nicely. it still maintains drivability but has the capacity to unleash the beast! at any rate, keep us updated and good luck.
