We took Ron Schneeman's '71 GTO 455 HO car to US 41 last night in Morocco, IN last night for some testing in good air. The track prep was fantastic and only a handful of us there. Started the first pass last night in sea level air and went down from there. Ran 6 times. Best pass to date was a 12.42 last year. First pass of the night was a 12.47 with a 60ft of 1.87. Not amazing but had a set up for 1,000 ft air. Then from there he made 5 straight passes in the 12.30's with a best pass of 12.31 with a 1.79 60ft. Amazing night. Jody
Congrats on the good runs. That track used to hook good glad to see it still does. I need to get my 68 CJ Mustang out .Lets try and get a bunch of the pure stock racers out .If I am going I will start a thread .
X2. A '70 stock Stage 1 went mid to high 13s at around 102-104, at best, bone stock with G60 tires. Tuning carb and ignition got an additional 2 to 3 tenths or so. I was there.
Nope. They did not have mandrel bent 2 1/2 exhausts with X pipes nor the much softer repop tires. Just those two things alone make up so much of it. Not to mention the point and a half of compression you are allowed over advertised compression and being able to blueprint the motors. Jody
Food 4 thought...like you said 102-104mph. My Pure Stock 70 Buick has run 12.7X @ 104. So it not a bunch of extra HP
If the weather stays good I will head to US41 tomorrow .They are open 3 to 10 .Finally got one soft break in pass on my 68 Mustang last night and want to see how well it does on a better track with some mid day heat.
Jody, err, JHOdy, I was hoping this was an update on your 72. But still good to hear US41 still hooks after all the work done to the track. I haven't made it back there since the new ownership, but I really REALLY want to. I feel honored to have been paired with Ron at Martin since his car just flat moves. Good luck Steve, hopefully the weather does cooperate. I would love to join you, but the car is partially apart (as I sent some things off for plating when I shipped a heavy box of items off for the W-31). It would be easy to fix, but I also have plans anyway.
