Stuck advance mechanism or carb linkage for choke/secondaries free up?

Carb was rebuilt by Ken, and I checked the advance mechanism when I had the distributor out, seemed fine and the rotor would snap back under spring tension when the distributor was put back in the car with the cap off. Although my suspicion is something distributor related, I'm still not sure.

Would the vac advance randomly start working? And if so would it cause such a drastic change?

The only other thing I can think of is that I changed the oil when I did the fuel pressure test, but I'm sure that couldn't have been it . . .

I believe this was the thread that indicated the choke not fully opening?
That affects the secondary lock out linkage.

I wouldn't declare the problem resolved, it may in fact happen again. Fix the vacuum advance canister, it needs to be replaced if sucking on it produces no effect.

When you talk about getting an HEI, do you mean a large cap GM HEI? I'd find out what was wrong first before giving up on your distributor.

You're right, and I'm kind of expecting it to come back at any moment. When I say HEI I mean either a GM big cap, a Crane Kit, or getting my points distributor converted by Dave's Small Body HEIs. Or getting a Mallory small body HEI (like a comp s/s). Not sure which route to take yet.

Does anyone have a part number for the correct vac advance canister? Will pick one up today and swap it. Searched and found this adjustable one at my local parts place:

    Will that work?

If you want an adjustable one, get this one,

    http://www.jegs.com/i/Crane-Cams/271/99601-1/10002/-1?parentProductId=1581008

It comes with lighter springs and is more adjustable. Follow the instructions in the Power Timing Thread.

If you want a stock replacement part, just look it up on www.rockauto.com, STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS VC24AT, it's about 9.00

You finally got rid of the bad fuel (my theory).

It's true that I didn't end up blowing the hard lines out with compressed air,but would it really take that long to burn off all that fuel? Granted I didn't drive the car much after I cleaned the tank, maybe 2 to 5 miles around the block for fuel pressure testing.

Hmmmm . . . Guess i just have to wait and see what happens!

Bought some new tires for the rear yesterday (Christmas present for the Buick!), because the 10 year old ones are dry rotted alllllllllllll the way around where the tread meets the rest of the tire, and I haven't taken the car on the freeway yet for that reason :eek2:

The fronts look ok for now.

I posted in the hides section about what tires and wheel to go with for the front, but I chose 15x10s with a 5.5 BS and 295/50/15s for the rears. Was going to get BFG radial T/As but the Mastercraft Avengers were like $40 cheaper per tire. I've done some looking online and it seems that most white letter passenger tires are equal in the performance department so why not save a few bucks?

I'm going for an "understated" big and little look. I'm worried that 4" fronts are too skinny or a daily driver . . .

Nice choice on the rear size. That's a big tire. Jaystoy on the board runs those. Looks great!

Thanks! Decided to go with 15x7 on the fronts, going to buy them after I save the $$.

Also my choke is not melted, thanks Ken!!
