I have a terrible story for everyone. My brother and I are coming back from Porkys(A car place) on our way home. We both get to a long stretch of road. Im in my 68 buick GS-350 and he is in his 92 Firebird. We take off squealing the tires. I pull away off the line and continue to pull away the whole time. By the time we are going 90mph some lady pulls out of nowhere in front of me. With my brother right next to me i cant swerve out of the way. So i slam the breaks on. My breaks are terrible i the first place. It caused me to spin out and slam the right rear quarter panel rigth into a pole.....It was a major tear jerker. Thank god the only thing damaged was the quarter panel. Ill try to get a picture to show the nasty damage.

Never mind the quarter panel, at least You and the Lil Old Lady are still alive after that encounter. Good luck with the quarter fix, but at least the whole car isn't wiped out. :) -Kevin

Yeah thats true, because if i would have hit her at that speed she would have been severely injured...Im only 18 i take that as a lesson learned.

    Hey Lardo,

You will also learn quite fast that parts for these cars, ESPECIALLY the 68's and 69's are very hard to come by in any kind of numbers. You'd be best suited to drive like a maniac in a Mustang or Camaro. Those parts are available from K-Mart to JC-Whitney to 7-11.

You could find 30 Mustang or Camaro quarter panels before you found a good 68 or 69 GS quarter. :Smarty:

Not to steer you away from Buicks. Just try not to crash them! :Dou:

Better yet, try to keep yourself alive for awhile. At 18, you haven't even begun dude.

We all do stupid things, it's who learns from them that move on to bigger and better things. :Comp: :TU:

Lardo, heres a tip for ya. Theres a Buick company called Poston Enterprises, and they make repro 68-69 quarter skins. Is the quarter creased and folded up pretty good? Maybe you could do some hammer/dolly work and help it out. I wouldn't say you were driving like a maniac, as long as you learned a lesson from it thats all that matters. -Kevin

  8. So, what was the posted speed limit where you were doing 90?

Lardo- I was the first to respond to your post. I want to level with you a bit. First off, I am 19. I have a brother that is a few year older than I, and I completly understand what you did. My bro has an 86 t/a that is soupped up quite a bit. I ran him with my car on a busy road. neither of us went 90, the speed limit was 55, we both went about 65-70. nobody pulled out in front of us, but someone could have spoiled or fun, easily. I have 2 point to make. first off, as you say, your brakes suck. If you are aware of that, your first priority, (regardless if you plan to race!!!) should be to make them descent. Second off, if you are going to race on the road, you need to find a very quiet road. second off, you should only race on 55 mph roads. In street/strip cars, the race is ussualy over by the time you hit 60, because one car is ahead by then , and they rarely catch up. road racing is something we all do, not denying, but you have to pick your battles, and more importantly, your terf. Learn from this. Your much luckier then a couple kids I know. Guess what happened to them.

Well the quarter is folded up pretty good, there is no pounding it out. I have already bought some new quarters from Year One off E-bay. I probally should not have been doing 90 in a 45. Its hard to turn down a race...its so fun. But the car is parked for the winter so no more damage can be down...I do have alot of plans for the car this winter.
