I'm thinking about doing this to my 455 to hopefully make it a little more efficient. I know its a big block and that is kind of a joke:laugh: I was thinking of using a 454 tbi with megasquirt. I'm also wondering if it would be easier with 454 ecm and a prom burner to change the parameters to better match the buick 455 specs. I know this is a swap that has been done. Any tips to keep me from wasting time on stuff that doesn't work? Thanks in Advance, Chris
Unfortunately it won't be that easy. I believe the 454 has an undersized TBI for the buick 455. check out here for more info about the 454 TBI http://www.tbichips.com/454ss.htm per the link above, the 454 TBI is undersized for more than 450 hp. Not to mention it only flows about 650 cfm. also researching the 454 tbi can be bored out to flow 800 cfm or so. via google and some 4x4 forums Buicks like big carburetors. This has been throwing off my mental calculations now that I'm dabbling into ford engines. (400ci uses a 600 cfm carb for example) now using two 2bbl TBI's from lets say a dodge dakota, I believe you will be in the ball park for the correct cfm. doing a little more reasearch via google check out thirdgen.org apparently some of those guys have junkyard tbi's for performance.

I guess I need to look at what my budget would be to get this to work
Will this work ?......http://www.affordable-fuel-injection.com/store.php?crn=209&rn=436&action=show_detail
I'm very interested as well.....I've looked at systems ranging from the one mentioned above, all the way up through a $4500.00 MFI set-up...I'm trying to decide what I want to do right now...
The car ran very well, it started real easy it was like driving a newer car in some ways. I wanted more power so I went back to a hyolley carb.I think if you are looking for perfrmance you should go with efi or carb. TBI is okay for a cruiser Glen
Is it a standard 454 tbi in that kit or is it a ported throttle body? The motor I have is a stock 455 Your kit sounds exactly what I'm looking for. I didn't plan on doing this very soon as I'm in the middle of a home purchase and don't have access to the car right now. The best deals always come at the worst times :ball:. I would just like it to be a cruiser for the most part.
For about 1800 bucks you could awlays get the Powerjection III system. It comes complete with everything you need, can be installed in an hour, and is a self learning system. It's what I plan on getting when i get back for my Riv. http://www.retrotekspeed.com/products/powerjection-iii/powerjection-iii-system.html
I went with a multiport EFI (w/ MegaSquirt2) because the limited CFM of the TBI's. So it'll depend on how much hp your 455 makes. On my '67 T-bird with a 428FE engine, I replaced the 600cfm autolite with a 670cfm Holley GM TBI (and MegaSquirt1). I figure for that stock engine it should be sufficient with two 85lb/hr injectors. MegaSquirt now has a trans controller for the electronic trans's, so I've been thinking about a 4L80e in the Centurion, and if I do that EFI is on the plate for it. But that would be a cheap build. I was thinking of putting my own injector bungs in an Edelbrock Performer intake I have and hollowing out a Q-jet and using it for a Throttle Body with a cable TPS. Another thought I'd had was getting the fuel injector lines from an EFI'd Old's engine off a late 70's Cadillac (they aren't straight fuel rails), and see if I can fit them space wise on the Performer. I'd take the LC-1 off the T-bird and put it on the Centurion for tuning purposes. But that's down the road.
Might look at the F.A.S.T EZ-Efi system like I popped on my GS last year. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=181640
I'm running a 454 TBI unit with the stock chevy computer that's has a modified chip in my Jeep CJ7. It's on a stock 73 455 and it works well. If you're not looking to make big power the 454 tbi will work.
I ran the Holley Projection for several years (1993 - 2001) and liked it a lot. It was a little bit short on fuel delivery - I would have liked bigger injectors - but overall it was a nice little unit. -Bob C.
I suspect that most cars will need more than an hour, since a return line and electric fuel pump need to be installed. I'd plan on a long 10-hour day... -Bob C.
