    Hey guys!
U guys helped me out on the bow distance for my 66 so now I have another ?
    for all you do-it yourselfers!
I had to remove the old tackstrip in the rear bow. The old tack strip was made of compressed paper. It was hold in place with tacks shot into the metal bow.. I dont think my electric gun will be able to shoot through the new hard rubber tackstrip and into the metal... How would you guys do this?
Will glue be enough? or how about screws?
    All ideas are welcome:TU:

    thank you:beers2:

I bought an electric staple gun from Lowe's, who also had stainless steel staples you'll need, and it still works fine 4 years later. The rubber tack strip really holds up well.

This might sound tacky [har, har}, but I made a tack strip for mine by shaving down some synthetic molding I got at Lowe's. You could use wood too. Really anything that would hold the staples.

I found some molding at the hardware store but it would not hold the staples as good as I want it to. :(

the old paperstuff actually had a firm hold on the old rusty staples:TU: But to rotted to use again..

    I guess I have to keep hunting:idea2:

    Or go with the wood...

    Satch,
How did you fasten the tackstrip to the bow?

I was looking through the pictures I took when I did mine, but I guess I forgot to take one of the third bow when I was doing my top. I tried to use my pneumatic stapler and they just bent up instead of going into the bow.

I used two self tapping screws one near each end and also contact cement on the three sides. I cut slots in the strip so I could make the 90 degree bend and also the little bend where the pad rests on the frame. It was a pretty snug fit to begin with since I used my planer to get it to just fit.

    Back again... :Do No:

Anyone knows exactly the size of the staples i need to get for my new top?
    1/2" 3/8" 1/4" or what?
Is it the same size for all the bows?
    thanks again.

On my 71 GS conv. there were 2 different sizes used - one has just over 5/8 in. and the other was 7/16 in. I just mine from a place that does auto upholstery.
