    Howdy,

The wussy exhuaste on my '64 Riviera has certianly seen better days as it is now alternately dragging on speedbumps and rattling against the floorboard so its time for the 1.75" pipes and crossflow muffler to get the sawsall sometime soon.
With my 70 Riv I had the TA 3" kit and I could not get it to fit properly between the springs and the tires, granted I had to soap the tires to get them on past the brake drums and skirt latch so they were plenty wide, and the mufflers dragged constantly so I eventually scrapped the system and went to a crush bent with spin tech system that I hated because it was loud but didn't hit on anything. Now with the 2.5" kit I think it will clear plenty well but I'm still worried about ground clearance as this car is slammed in the front and the fix for that is months away and will be airbags so I still will need the ground clearance. Does anyone have any experience with TA's kit?

    Thanks,

I put the TA exhaust on my Riv. The mufflers hang down low because of their location in front. They scrape- I have the original springs that have sagged perfectly to the height I want :TU: The rest fits really well. I wonder if you could eliminate the front mufflers and use one of those new Ultra Flow X mufflers in the stock location? It would require some fabrication with some tight mandrel bends back there. I think it would sound good and if you wanted more quiet maybe put some ultra flow round resonators in the system @ stock location.

I've heard of people just taking 2 mufflers and running them in the stock location by criss crossing the pipes past each other but that sounds a bit complicated. My idea was to splice a straight section of pipe in where the front mounted muffs go and move them to the back or straight sections still in the X. I do like your idea for the Ultra Flow X but I don't know enough about it and I'd like to free up that space because the EFI gas tank out of an 9C1 Caprice looks like it will slide right between the rear frame rails but is so deep that it would hit the muffler in stock position. I'll research the Ultra Flow X and see if I like it.

Right! My Dad built a 78 Malibu w/ aZ06 engine, used 4 round ultra flow mufflers-2 under the rear set area; 2nd pair mounted between the axle and fuel tank where they crossed to exit the other side of the car.. That system sounds good, has a little drone but not too bad. Point is they were able to cross them.
Another friend with a 64 Riv used a Flowmaster 2 in/2/out as the cross flow muffler. That one is Loud!

I had to have custom head pipes fabbed up for my 69 Riv to get them up and around the frame. It was expensive, but worth every penny.

On my '70 the TA headpipes fit pretty well though I spun a bolt in the manifold so that was no fun. Did you custom headpipes get the muffs out of the way of the floorpans and tucked up a bit better under the floors so it doesn't scrape? I'm really trying to avoid the scraping issue, even to the point of looking at a possible combination of glasspacks leading into a flowmaster 40 series crossflow in the stock location but that isn't so easy with the TA kit since its designed for an over the axle and out back system. Anyone else make a good mandrel bent kit for the 1st Gen Riv's?

My muffs hang low, but they are up against the floorboards as far as they can go without rubbing. These things were low from the factory, but not intended to be as low as we're making them.
