Need to know how much higher you guys think we can raise the carb pad over the TA intake manifold. Or those of you that have a stock 4 intake with drop base air cleaner and close the hood. Would like to see dimensions from both intakes and as many folks as possible.
    Thanks

I've read through research that your TA DP intake fits under a GS hood with a 1" spacer on top of it with some room to spare. Some say a 2" spacer can work.

It'll be interesting to see the results this question brings...

My old sheet metal single plane raised the carburetor pretty good and the hood closed fine with a 14x3 air cleaner.

How tall can you make it and have ram air cleaner still fit?2 inches?

According to my memory banks, a 1" spacer can be used with the TA intake and still have clearance for the ram air, though some of the styrofoam seal needs to be trimmed away. Not sure about 2" though.

I use a 1 inch spacer plus the 1/2 inch nitrous sprayer then I have a K&N Flow Control air cleaner and it is 4 inch high. This air cleaner has a drop base and it just makes it. I think there is about a 1/2 inch to the hood. I have the engine tied down on the drivers side to help keep it from moving up when floored. I probably need to weld the motor mount on the drivers side to stop movement. I have used the 2 inch spacer with the air cleaner without the nitrous plate. Sean has pictures in his archive of the spacer and my air cleaner.

Forget the Ram Air system on the GS hood it does not work and actually sucks air out at high speed.

the stage II design mentioned would , if I remember correctly , move the exhaust port up and in basically ?
that seems as though that may help '64-'67/350 combo's with more room for header fitment ( say if TA made SII headers maybe the 68-72 style headers may fit both ? ) or custom header construction .
i'll have to eye-ball that on the car . just thinkin .

Chevy rockers would be nice, and chevy valves.

Please, we need a few of you to work on this for everyone. I need real numbers, not guesses. The best way would be if the carb was spaced up on both TA and stock intake, with common 14x3 drop base air cleaner. How high can the carb be raised until the air cleaner touches the hood. Maybe some 5/16 all thread rod with a nut to adjust the carb up. Keep all 4 corners the same height. Once there, measure the space between the carb and intake. Many ways to get there just need the info A.S.A.P. Getting this info from more than a few folks creates more of an average. Not every car is created equal. Trying to get this done before something changes. I really appreciate the help.
    Thank you

With a Holley carb and a 2" tall carb hat the TA intake sits 10 inches from the top flat part of the block between the decks. The same setup with my custom intake sits 12.5 inches tall and just barely fits under the flat hood of my Skylark. So the intake can be roughly 2.5" taller than stock and a person could use a K&N filtertop to increase the air filter area if needed.

    Here is another option:

    http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/mc/efi/intake_elbows.shtml

The box style is 4-1/4" tall. One of these might be a little shorter than a throttle body/air cleaner combination, almost certainly a little shorter than a carb/air cleaner. But I do not have those measurements to know for sure. Injector bosses would be a must of course.

Carb height photos to hood 1 inch spacer with 1/2 inch nitrous spacer. I used two different air cleaners and you can see where the top of both air cleaner lids have hit the hood at one time or another. This was probably when I used the 2 inch spacer.

So it looks like there is a little under 2" of room to go higher with the new single plain TA intake...

I was gonna do mine this past weekend, but car cover was still frozen and dont want to tear it
once it becomes a lil plyable i'll see what max height Is over the current 1inch carb adapter with stock iron intake

Pretty much. This was already 'known' though confirmation is important since there'll be another series of intake based off it.

Probably go 1-1.5" to be on the safe side. (I'd go with 1" higher)

clearance does not have to be an issue - mike can just include a hacksaw blade with each intake .
