Ron, I'm not positive on how TA advertises the capacity of their pans, but I would bet it's the same way that I do. When I say it's an 8 qt pan that means total oil capacity. My 8 qt pan may only hold 6.5 or 7 qts in the actual pan. If the pan itself held 9 qts that would be a large total system capacity. I base mine off of the stock pan and the oil "FULL" mark on the dipstick..... total capacity being 5 qts. If I can add 3 qts to the actual sump, that makes it an 8 qt pan.
If you run 7-8 qts total with that pan and the oil pressure doesn't fluctuate while racing, I'd say you're good to go!

After doing a pressure test with a drill I have a problem with pressure which is probably causing me to flow to much oil too quickly. It goes up to 65 lbs at first for about 5 seconds then it starts fluctuating and drops to about 40-50 and the drill torque frees up a bit. It has to leaking inside the engine some where or maybe the timing cover gasket leaking pressure to the inside. I'm trying a different oil pump cover tonight and will inspect the KB booster plate gaskets. This all happened after the oil mods and replacing the timing cover with a messaged one from Fred. I just hope it wasn't something I did wrong doing the mods. If this has ever happened to anyone please let me know what is was.

Sounds fine to me. Depending on where the lifter oil bands are located, pressure will be lost there depending on where they happen to be sitting in the bores during your test. Realize that pump rpm will rise with engine rpm well past what your electric drill can provide, which is why I wouldn't be concerned about what you're seeing with such a slow pump test. The change in pump drag may simply be the pressure relief valve beginning to open.

Well I put that other pump cover on there and changed the gasket between the gears and the KB booster plate, because it didn't look that good, and I have the weak spring in it. Now I have 52 lbs non stop with the drill!!! I guess the inner gasket might have been bleeding out oil pressure at a certain spot. Now I just need to get the motor back in the car and test it Wednesday evening. I will let you know had it goes when I start it.
Thanks for your help Buick people!!!

Ran it last weekend and it has 80 lbs cold then drops down when warmer but after 5 runs it's bouncing a little from 60 to 80 at 6500. It never runs out of oil now at 7 qts. I think a new or different timing cover should be tried next.

Ron, did you open up the intake and exit ports on the timing cover? Thinking about doing that to the one I plan to use but concerned about messing it up then having to spend another 500.00.

I opened up the block but Fred worked the cover and one spot looks thin by one of the holes by the gears so I might get a new one and smooth it out but not comprimise the sealing surfaces.
