i have a transmission from a 67 wildcat i was told the passing gear kick down switch also works the switch pitch part of the converter please help thanks :
switch pitch The kick down switch is on the arm of the carb, The idle stator switch is on the other end of the throttle actuating rod and is the small one. By all means keep the switch pitch feature working and dont let some mechanic talk you into converting the trans into a ordinary th 400. :Smarty: If you do You will lose a lot of performance. The switch pitch is the better than snuff and aint near as dusty. :Brow: The big switch kicks the trans down into passing gear and causes the stator in the torque converter to "switch pitch" to a higher stall speed having the effect of a much lower gear. The little switch switches the stator to a higher stall speed when the throttle returns to idle position. This helps the engine handle the accessories like a/c ps ect.
Don't forget keep the car from trying to creep on you at a stop light, I had to put both feet on the brake pedal sometimes at a stop light or it'd try to run away from me. My switchs were broken/not hooked up so I left it in low stall so I could drive it on the road.
Rootman, If you look on the drivers side of the transmission, there will be an electrical connection with 2 contacts. The vertical connector is for the kickdown, the horizontal one is the switchpitch(SP). Apply 12 volts to the SP connector, and you get high stall, take it away, you get low stall. As mentioned, there are switches up on the throttle linkage that control the SP change and the kickdown. Many times these switches are missing or inoperative. All you need to do is wire a toggle or push button type switch to the SP connector on the trans, and it will work.
Could you/someone tell again, so Finnish man understand that? My SP linkage is inoperative, but wire is connected SP. Help me....
I once had to take the switch apart and clean the connections to get the kickdown to work, that might be your issue. It is common. Check for voltage as you manually move the switch with the key on.
What car are we talking about? What year and model? Are the original switches still on the throttle linkage?
