sway bar bushings

    Have an off-beat Tri-Shield; 1959. (Actually, that predates the Tri-Shield by 1 model year :p ).

A bunch of companies market sway bar bushing for my car (11/16-in dia), and they swear up & down they're a correct fit. They aren't.
Moog K5227 is sold by a number of outfits, but I held it in my hand and it's about a quarter inch too narrow for the factory bracket. Rattles around freely = no good. Rare Parts gave me their part's external dimensions- same thing. Some companies (Energy Suspension) do not have a chart that lists their bushings by external size. My next lead is to e-mail Rare Parts with my specs so they can check if their stock cross-references. Not holding my breath.

Before you say 'go universal' - my car's set-up has a secondary bracket that pushes the sway bar about an inch off the frame. I don't care to find out via experimentation if eliminating that would cause a problem. I suppose I COULD go universal if I made a flat stock spacer... but it just makes me nutty that such a simple piece isn't available... or that it's commonly offered as correct but isn't. Would be 'simple' to extrude a rubber shape and just slice off 1.25-in lengths...

I guess this is just a rant. Or maybe I should get me a GS... :(

OR..... is it remotely possible that once I compress the 2 pieces together against the frame, that the 'too small' bushing would expand somehow to fill the factory bracket??

I have created a chart with the four most popular sizes away bar frame bushings, taken care to have actual sizes, and I have all of them in stock, brand new....

Can mail you a chart -- and you can see what is correct.
(Sometimes, what is on the car is more accurate than the catalog.)

    Always best to simply call me -- Craig -- 516 - 485 - 1935.....
