I have a '69 Skylark Custom that I'm dog-robbing parts off of for my '68 California GS. I have removed a lot of parts that will fit, but I have a question about the differential. My original driveshaft used bolts to hold the straps that attach the driveshaft to the differential yoke. On the donor car, there are u-bolts and nuts. I'm pretty ignorant on the differences, so I'm asking if this is maybe an 8.5 instead of an 8.2 differential (hope, hope, hope)? Do I need to post pix to show the difference?

From what I found out the 8.5 used straps and the 8.2 used u bolts. I'm sure someone can confirm but that's my experience.

pic of the yoke/straps and the cover would help. 8.5 uses bolts and straps. I have also seen chevy 8.2s that used bolts n straps.

also An 8.5 will have square "ears" recognizable at about 5:00 and 7:00 in the differential housing casting when looking at the diff cover from the rear.
