Contact John Osborne in Kentucky, he is currently building a new NHRA stock class GS.

You may also want to try to contact one of the Zane boys from New Jersey.

I have been campaigning a 1970 GS455 Stage 1 in C/SA and D/SA since 2005. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have as well as provide you with insight as to what the truly competitive cars are doing.

The first piece of advice I can give you is save up your money to buy an $8K set of heads and intake manifold that have been ported and covered up. With NHRA's recent lowering of all index's by .3 , a 100% rulebook legal car (no cheater heads and intake) will only run about .3-.6 under the new indexes in the best air. What this means is that if you spend all of your time and money to attend a divisional or national event you will have to play keep away on the ladder to avoid a heads-up race ( I have been doing this for 4 years). It is not very fun.

I would look towards building an IHRA crate motor stocker - I was able to get IHRA to approve the 455 Buick for the crate motor stock class. As of this past Friday I finished putting the IHRA motor in the car and had it out Saturday for some shakedown runs. All I can say is wow! and thanks to my good buddy Tom Rix - you need to get to know Tom, he is wealth of information regarding class racing.

The crate motor class allows you to use TA's stage one street eliminator small port heads (unported), any intake manifold unported, roller rockers, a holley 850 carb. The rest of the bottom end is per the NHRA stock eliminator rules.

IF you decide to quit racing at least the parts on your car still have value and will not cost you an arm and a leg.

I had $4000 total in my heads, intake and carb. Half of what the cast iron NHRA cheater heads and intake cost.

If you are serious and want more info - call me at 208-691-6394.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for all the advice. im sure ill have all kinds of questions for every one. I have been running IHRA crate motor for a couple years now, with a small block chevy. The problem with IHRA is their is not many races around me, and the direction they have been going dosent look real good. I am well aware of the dodging heads up runs, im sure i will be doing it all my racing career lol.
thank you and have a great day
