Still waiting for the MO for customs charges (only $30 odd dollars) but I need every penny I can get my hands on at this time.
Ammo costs are going through the roof! :blast:

If anyone has any contact with this guy please remind him. He has said on several PM's that he is going to send it but never did.

    Thank you!

I have no idea. I shipped it via FedEx and they said it would be such and such amount, which was fine and I paid it. About two weeks later I get a bill from FedEx saying there is a customs charge that I have to pay. I never shipped to Canada before that and have no idea the easiest way to do it.
That's why I don't like shipping across borders because it is so difficult and expensive.

    Thank you,

I shipped an expensive item to Canada a couple weeks ago, and we agreed on UPS, my preference for higher dollar parts, for ins and tracking purposes. Our shipping dept fills out customs paperwork for anything we send to Canada, or the driver won't even take the package. In this case the box showed up in BC and UPS charged the buyer a $55 "customs" fee. In my opinion, the receiver/buyer is responsible for those charges. On the U.S. side, we have no idea they are going to be asked to pay such a fee upon receipt. As a Canadian resident, I'd think the buyer should be aware that such charges may be requested upon delivery. Todd, my guess is the buyer took the package and refused to pay the fees Fedex asked for. They then turn around and go after you. I do not believe you are responsible.

I DO ship thru the post office for less expensive parts, into Canada. I know for a fact they do not try to charge extra fees for border crossing. Shipper still has to fill out customs paperwork, just like we do for our UPS pkgs to Canada. I really don't understand how UPS/Fedex can get away with their practices.

You must get creative with the customs forms to avoid that.

Like when I sell saddlebag guards out of US.

I put down metal brackets and value them at $5, the cost of the raw steel.
I don't add in assemble and coating in the price.

However, when insuring an expensive item, I'm not about to declare a 5 dollar value on a $300 part.

Yeah, us too! UPS is the worst for that. It's not duty, it's just their EXORBITANT HANDLING fees. I've adopted Steve Craig's philosophy. If ya wants the part, ya pays the price. It's the ones who experience this for the first time and weren't expecting it that it leaves them shell-shocked. Like I was!

Yeah, I read about a case a few years ago where the Canadian buyer was given the package then UPS tried to collect additional fees from him after the fact. He refused to pay. UPS then tried collecting from the seller in the U.S. He also refused to pay. No one paid and I think UPS stopped trying to collect. Todd, you should have refused to pay, since you paid their charges in full when you gave them the package to ship.

Live and learn. I will refuse to pay those charges from now on.
I agree that they are raping us with the "oh and by the way" charges they pull out of their :moonu:

Good info on this thread, I bet someone could make a little side business smug... er I mean running parts across the border.
Got to go. I hear the local Sportsman finally got some 00buck in and that won't last more then a day...

    Thanks guys!

    He is still a cheat.
He PM'd me on Feb. 2, 2010 asking how much he owed me and my address. I replied and nothing....
Kept getting PM's saying he'd send the MO but never did.

    Don't deal with Byeoffiser,
