Yeah, if I were to go the aluminum head route, I would be putting in a 455 since I have a complete motor laying around. This is a low buck effort to improve slightly without going full mental. I've crossed that line many times in the past. I'm getting better at not overdoing it.

My spare 455 is the small-valve I pulled out of my car to install the aluminum-headed motor in. It was fine when I pulled it and stored in my heated/air conditioned garage. I turn it a quarter turn every month or so. The spare one is milder and has the boss drilled in the side for clutch lever and the crank appears to have most of a pilot hole in it. May not be all the way down square. Swapping would be pretty easy, new clutch kit and flywheel, frame pads and headers are the bare minimum. I have a 4-core radiator in storage. I could run the Holley off the 350 to get it going but I'd need a good quadrajet eventually. I have a full new exhaust for the 350 headers that is 2.5" that would work just fine with the 455 as well.

Still looking for a set of big valve 350 heads.

I'm slowly getting it there. The motor is almost out. Just need to cut the exhaust and disconnect the z-bar to pull engine and M20 trans together.

Didn't 71 GS's come stock with M21 trans? My original 71 GS350 and other one I parted out both had M21 trans? Just asking?

Yes, it did. I swapped in an M20 and it helped the 3.08 gears a lot over the M21 but it still needs more so the M23Z is going in its place.
