    Hello friends,

i got a problem with my 4 vspeed stick shifter, i can shake the stick around and around and around and have to search my gears - i find them, but their is no way to shift quick.

    is my linkage bad ?

    What to do ?

.. an idea what to do ? - i think my springs are gone to adjust the stick ...

    could this be ?

have i got to buy new Shifter and linkage ?

    thanks for any help !

    greatings

From what your describing it sounds like the shifter is worn out. Being that your in Germany I would say the easiest fix would to find a Hurst shifter either new or on Ebay. I'm sure someone here will give you a part number to look for once we find out what kind of car/ engine/ trans combo you have.

perhaps someone from you got a hurst shifter with linkage left for me.

used is ok, if its in good condition.

i am happy about any help.

Thanks for teaching my enlish : i don`t know how to say worn out !!

Dave Kleiner can rebuild them. Sounds like the separator plates between the gates may be worn out.

What's the weather like there now? I was there in May several years ago and I froze my grapes. Went all around Bavaria. Berchtesgaten, Schwabish Hall, Neuschwantstein. That's all I can remember now. And I know I probably spelled them wrong. Very pretty countryside and a lot of history. -Mike

All these old american cars and so on.

The weather in the moment is not as got as it should be, but we had some days with 30 grad celsius some days ago !

The problem you describe can be the linkage bushings. When they go bad a lot a slop is created in the shifter. It is very easy to rebuild this with a little help from someone that has done it before but you need the parts. Can you take a look and post a pic of what you have?

Your shifter predates the Hurst type being installed in Buicks. I believe it is a Muncie shifter ( or maybe BW) which is the same type that came in early Chevelles.

If Hurst makes a kit to retofit in yoiur car then you might go that route. They are now owned by Mr Gasket.
