Has anyone else experianced "heat soak" on thier BBB while using T/A long tube headers? I'm on my 2nd starter, all new cables, wiring, ground straps (2). After a short trip (10 mi) the car will crank very slooooow. Then either the starter speed picks up or the car stops cranking entirely. Battery is 725 amp, 1 yr old. Clearance on the headers is tight with about a 1" gap. Any suggestions, really don't want to go with the mini starter. I have no problems with a cold engine, just after it gets hot. The heat shield that TA sells didn't help me. I think your due for a mini. That's how I got around the hot start. No problems since! :TU:
Same here, ate up three starters last summer. I switched to a mini the end of last year and ran it all of this year. Even in 95 degree weather it started right up.:TU:
The TA Shorties have about 1/16" clearance at the one corner of the starter. It's never slow to crank, even when hot... what I get is it just won't do anything sometimes. I suppose a mini is in order...
You'll hear the same from me, after the shorties went on the full size starter went off. Get ahold of Jamie (65GSConvert) here on the board, he's got a listing in the vendors section, should be able to help you out.
Mini starters TA has a sale on those starters right now. If you order one, have them mount the solenoid so that when the starter is installed, the solenoid is straight out the bottom away from the headers. Len
