I was wondering what is different between the 2 alumnium heads?

The difference between the stg-2 SE and the TE is that the Se uses the conventional stg-1 intake port location, whereas the TE uses the stg-3 style tall port configuration.
The TE also is designed to allow the use of the larger up to 2.25 inch intake valve, however, you must change the intake seats in order to accomodate this larger valve.
The TE head will flow as good as a stg-3 but does not require the stg-3 rockers as the valves are not spread out as far as the stg-3 heads.

You can typically get intake flow in the range of 320 to 330 pretty easy on the SE head and pretty easy 340 to 360 range in the TE heads with the larger intake valve. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES

    Next question:
with my current componets, which head would work best?

    JE pistons 11.25:1 compression
    Coan 9" 4500 converter
    4:11 gears w/ 29" tire
    SP4 cam

Which head would work best? I really don't know. The TE has the capability of making more horsepower.
I have heard results with the TE heads without the larger intake valve that the flow is not much if any better than the SE head.
What heads are you currently running? I f you have iron stg-1's, I would say either one would make a fairly substantial difference. Jim Burek

    Jim.
I am currently running a set of iron Stage 1 heads w/ a little more than the "average" port job. I have the abilty to go with either head, since i have a SP2 and SP1 intake. Since both will use the same valves and rockers I am just looking for some input on which is better for the buck.

    Thanks :Do No:

I have a mild "big" motor and Im running the SE heads. I have a 4000 lb car and its making over 800 hp. I just got the car in the 1.46 60 foot range and have now been 132-3 mph. I dont think you will see a tremendace difference in a heavier car between the two but I could be wrong. My flow sheet on my heads says 334.9 /243.8

Good luck its always good to see a fast buick getting faster!!:Brow:

    Rob,

If your starting with nothing then the TE head is better. Having the raised port entrance is worth 5 to 10 cfm. Remember... air does not like to make turns when flowing at 280 fps (feet per second). The air quality is also better in the TE head. When the head is on the flow bench with air flowing through the port you can hear that the TE head is quieter than the SE. All of this equals a more consistant airflow into the cylinder.

The only drawback to the TE is you will have to use a tall port intake. Your existing intake will not work with the tall port head.

Now... there is an advantage to the SE head. The last time I looked Mike T/A was selling it for much less than the TE and the Stage 1 aluminum.

    Good Luck

If I was just now buying my Aluminum Heads I would go w/ the TE's.
You know how it goes:"Fast is never fast enough".
The TE's have more potential for every last bit of power.
I'm pretty deep into the SE's on my 505 but I'm sure there is more power in the other heads now available.

Any full size pics of your car?Looks like one that I could appreciate judging by your avatar.:TU:

Since you have both intakes already, and considering how fast the car already is , I would definately go with th TE heads. Put in larger intake seats, you don't necessarily need to go with a 2.25 inch valve, but you definately want something substantially bigger than the 2.13.
There is more potential with the TE heads than the SE's. Jim Burek

If your going STG 2.. Then TE's are the way to go, no doubt.

Otherwise go STG 1 alum, and keep your current headers.

We don't use anywhere near a 2.25 inch valve in the TE's, as the big valve hurts low lift flows, due to shrouding issues in the chamber..

Our TE heads use valves smaller than 2.200.

You can only relieve the combustion chamber so much.. before you run into the head gasket sealing surface.

maybe they'll put some traction compound on the track :Do No: probably not, most of the imports that run on wednesdays don't need it anyway.
